Hi I'm Elder Perkins

I am from Washington and have been called to serve a mission in the Philadelphia Pennsylvania area speaking Spanish. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am graduating from High School and community college this year through the Running Start program. I love camping, hiking, biking, and basically anything that involves the outdoors. I played several sports in high school, including basketball, football, track and field, wrestling, and water polo. I work part time on a sheep farm. Other than school, work, and sports, I spend time with my family and friends, and I attend church and church activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the restored church on the earth today. I was raised in the church, was baptized when I was 8, and church was always just something I did. It wasn't until my family was visiting the Sacred Grove in Palmyra New York when I was about 14 that I decided to really ask for myself if the church was true. I knelt and prayed to know if the church was true, if Joseph Smith was a true prophet, if Jesus Christ really did die for my sins, if the Book of Mormon was a true book, if God really did speak to prophets on the earth today, and if I was doing what I was supposed to be doing to follow these teachings. I felt the spirit so strongly, as if Christ himself were there embracing me, and I knew that these things were true. Once I had found out for myself that these things were true, I began to go to Church for me, not for my parents. The church also teaches of the ability for families to be together forever, the opportunity to live in the presence of God for eternity, and how we can receive these incomprehensibly great things. I am a Mormon because I want to receive these things, and I know I can because of Christ's atonement, and by striving to live his commandments to the best of my ability.

How I live my faith

I am preparing to serve a two year mission for the church where I will serve and teach the people of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. I have served as the leader of the 16-18 year olds in my ward for the past year and it has been a fulfilling experience to watch and help them learn and grow in their testimonies. I enjoy serving in the community when I have the chance, such as feeding the homeless, helping a widowed woman in my ward with yard work, or even simple things such as picking up litter in the local park. I can't wait to devote all of my time and efforts to the people of Philadelphia for the next two years.

How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?
