Hi I'm Shannon

I sing in a rock band. I'm a grad student and a mother of four. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of four and a graduate student getting a Master's degree in history education. I love all kinds of music, especially singing and playing guitar. I also love teaching, whether it's in preschool, high school, or in Sunday classes at church. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was a 20-year-old college student. It has given me direction in my life, my marriage and our parenting.

Why I am a Mormon

When I read the Book of Mormon. I knew it was true. The more I learned about the Church, the more I became convinced that its doctrines were true. I felt it when I read Joseph Smith's testimony, and I still feel the Holy Spirit testifying its truth when I read the Bible or Book of Mormon today. I love it when people ask me about the church, because I don't need to try to convince them of anything. I just invite them to read and pray about what they have read. The Holy Ghost teaches them it is true.

How I live my faith

Finding opportunities to serve others makes my life rich and meaningful. At church I teach the six-year-old Sunday School class, which keeps me focused on the basic truths of the gospel. In the community I am involved with helping others in recovery from drugs or alcohol. Nothing is more satisfying than helping someone who is struggling to find a meaningful relationship with their Father in Heaven. For fun I play guitar and sing in a rock and blues band. Keeping the standards of the Church allows me opportunities to exchange spiritual ideas with people of all backgrounds who enjoy music. Singing is my primary cathartic activity! Really throwing myself into a great song and singing with gusto or finding the perfect harmony just feeds my soul.
