Hi I'm Derek

I live in Utah. I am a college student studying psychology. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a single parent home with my Mom since I was ten. I am the middle of five kids, the first four of us being boys. We all seemed to get ourselves into trouble. I seem to have always had a wild imagination. I have lived in the same house for pretty much my whole life. I served in the Washington Tacoma mission. I am currently a college student studying psychology. I want to be a counselor and help other people. I love geology, ballroom dance, movies and spending time with others.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was brought up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I choose to be a member. As with everyone in the world, I have had my own problems in my life, questions that I wanted answered. My parents were divorced when I was in fifth grade. It was hard on the whole family. It left us bruised and broken. My mother always had strong faith and always took her kids to church. I believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ can heal all wounds. I know that if it wasn't for the church, and the principles that we learn in it, my family would have fallen apart. However, this is not the reason that I am a Mormon. Throughout my life I have been a part of many things, some good and some bad. The world seems to point a million different ways. I have been confused, lost and depressed. In those times of trial, when I needed the most help, the gospel of Jesus Christ helped me to feel the love of my Father in Heaven. The Church taught me how to communicate with my Creator. Through prayer, I have felt the love that He has for me. I have been blessed more than I can express. I am a Mormon because of the peace and happiness that it has brought me in my life. Throughout my life, it is the one thing that has stayed constant. It has given me direction and meaning in my life. I am happy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my best to actually Live it. It's one thing to believe in something, and another to actually do what you believe in. I try to do the best I can to be like Jesus. I try to follow what God would have me do each day. I pray frequently and read my scriptures to seek for my Heavenly Father's help to be a better person. I try to help other people whenever I can, in all aspects: with physical service, help with homework, building their self worth, etc. I serve in the church as much as I can. I am currently teach lessons in a gospel class at church to a group of men in my young singles congregation. I feel that the best way to help other people become better is to be an example.
