Hi I'm Brycen

I'm a Senior in Mechanical Engineering. I am married to the most wonderful girl in the world. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up with the Rocky Mountains in my backyard. I love getting away from the stresses of life and exploring and experiencing the world outside the office and classroom. Mountain sports such as skiing, biking, trail running, and rock climbing have a especial appeal to me. As an Engineering student I have come to truly appreciate the physics behind the sports I love, it is amazing how math and science are able to unlock the workings of the physical world around us.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many athletes and outdoors enthusiasts, I often feel driven to push limits of safety and normality in pursuit of the adrenalin rush that comes from with doing something new and challenging. However, I think an even bigger motive than getting a rush is desiring to push our own limits and see them dissolve in front of us, giving way to greater possibilities and personal potential. We find joy in landing that next jump, dropping a bigger cliff, or nailing another route, which we weren't able to do the week before. In our own way we have unlocked one of the secrets to life, that is: Progression brings happiness. I grew up in a family where the Gospel of Jesus Christ was both taught and lived. And it was in the gospel of Jesus Christ that I began to learn the reason why I find joy in improving myself both athletically and in other aspects of life. It is also through His gospel that I have learned that an even greater joy can be found in helping others obtain similar improvements. These answers not only make logical sense, but as I have applied them in my life I have found that they yield the results which they claim. Christ himself said, "if any man shall do his will, he shall know of the doctrine" -John 7:17. It is through putting the teachings to the test that I have learned for myself that they are true! The teachings of Jesus Christ that have been restored through His Church help me to know I can find personal joy in this life as well as perfect joy in the life to come.

How I live my faith

Many people associate the word faith with a lack of knowledge or proof. I would say faith is simply putting trust in the things that you do know and not allowing the fear of the unknown to paralyze you into doing nothing. I live my faith by striving to follow the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ- loving God and loving others. In learning to love God I have gained a deeper understand of who He is and who I am. I have come to know for myself that He is my Father and I am his son. In striving to love others I have gained a better understanding of how I can become more like my Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. I have found that it is through serving others that real happiness is obtained. I don't know everything, but through acting on the knowledge I have obtained I have found joy and continuation of more knowledge along with it. My wife Amy and I were married last summer, greatest miracle ever! I know marriage is a sacred gift from God. Our families can become one of the greatest blessing of this life. My faith in God's plan helps me to know that I can be with my wife and our future children beyond this life. Christ gave the power to bind on earth and have it bound in heaven to the 12 Apostles he called in his day (Matt 16:19), and he has once again called 12 Apostles in our day and returned that power to the earth.
