Hi I'm Jerry

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Indiana and am a convert to the church.

About Me

The best years of my childhood wer'e as a ypung boy on our farm. I enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. My brother and two cousins would ride our bikes 3 miles to the movies on Saturday afternoon. That was only if the chores wer'e finished. My father was a carpenter as well as a farmer. He taught me in both areas and I enjoyed the smell of fresh dirt as I plowed the fields. One of my first paying jobs was working on a bailing crew.  I was 11 or 12 years old and received a penny a bail. I graduated from Catholic high school and joined the Air Force where I was an enlisted instructor and taught a 16 week course for 4 years. I was later assigned to Osan Airbase, Korea on remote tour. I have also served in the Army as a jumpmaster in the 101st Airborne with 75 jumps to my credit and later was assigned to Frankfurt, Germany for 3 years where I worked as a law clerk for the JAG (Judge Advocate General) until I retired from the Army. I enjoy fishing, camping and visiting with our children and grandchildren. I'm a avid geneologist.

Why I am a Mormon

In October 1973 two missionaries came to our home. They changed our lives. These missionaries wer'e 19-20 years old and I was 37. When they taught about Heavenly Father's Plan of Happiness which included where we came from, why we are here on earth and where we go after we leave this earth I felt I had been instructed in this area before. As the missionaries taught I would ask some questions and they would reply they would cover the information in a later discussion. (I thought at their age they probably didn't know the answer). I was plesantly suprised and converted as they answered every question. I am a member of this church because I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith was and is a prophet. I personally know this as I received an answer through the Spirit as the Father and the Son visited with young Joseph in that sacred grove in answer to the question of which church was true. The Book of Mormon is true because Joseph Smith is a prophet. I know the priesthood has been restored in this dispensation of time and that we are led by a living prophet.

How I live my faith

My wife and I have served missions in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Virginia Richmond. We have served as temple workers for many years and as a member of a temple presidency. I currently serve as a temple sealer where I am blessed to perform marriages for time and eternity. We believe families are eternal. I was recently ordained patriarch and have served as a bishop several times. We continue to read our scriptures on a daily basis and enjoy our association with people in general. Above all, we love our family of 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. As my father often said they are all grand.
