Hi I'm Joe

I'm a Mormon. I served a mission for church in England. Now, I'm a cop.

About Me

I am a father of six and when I'm not busy with my children, which is rare, I am an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team. Even during their off season. I served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in England and truly loved it. Before I became a dad I loved bungee jumping, sky diving, and riding ATVs. Now, I love watching my kids play soccer and baseball, and try as hard as I can to make sure they too, end up as Tar Heels fans.

Why I am a Mormon

When I left to serve my mission my testimony of this church was small. I was raised as a Mormon and had always gone to church because that is just what we did on Sunday. I had many friends that were Mormon and many that were not. None of my friends went on missions, I was the only one, and it was a difficult decision to make. My mom was a widow with other children at home and I truly struggled with the decision to go. I did, and as I prepared to be a missionary I prayed and studied. I studied the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I studied them together and learned how they together, testify of Jesus Christ and his divine mission. I have always believed that Jesus Christ was my Savior, but through studying about him, his life, his sacrifice and example, and his love, I truly learned to say that he is my Savior and Redeemer. I love him with all my heart and try to follow his example. Through study and prayer I also learned the Book of Mormon and The Holy Bible are the word of God. Together, they testify of Christ. Working hand in hand they strengthen each other and contain the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through prayer, I also developed a strong testimony that Joseph Smith was and is a prophet of God. I know the priesthood was restored through him and through the power of God, he was able to translate the Book Of Mormon. I know that there is a prophet alive on this Earth today, Thomas S. Monson. It is comforting to me to know that the Lord has a representative on this Earth that has priesthood authority to speak for Him.

How I live my faith

Over the past few years I have served in various capacities in the different wards I have lived in. I have worked with adults, young adults, and children. I have served in missionary capacities, helping the full time missionaries who are laboring in the area I live. Through service, I have learned you truly come to love people. It is so easy to get lost in the work you do, whatever it is. But, when you serve others there is no greater reward.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

I believe Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God, in the same manner as Adam, Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, and many others. Our church does not worship him though. We worship our Heavenly Father and His son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was their mouthpiece on this Earth, and through him the fullness of the everlasting gospel was restored. Through him, God's priesthood was restored and the Book of Mormon was translated. Joseph Smith sealed his testimony of our Savior with his life, and we love and revere him. This is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and our Savior is at the head of our church and it is Him and His Father that we worship. Show more Show less
