Hi I'm Mara Thomas (Hermana Thomas)

I'm a full-time missionary. And I'm a Mormon. Soy misionera de tiempo completo. Y soy mormona.

About Me

I am a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am 19 years old, from Denver Colorado, United States of America. Before I left on my mission, I was studying at Brigham Young University in Utah. I am planning to get a bachelor's degree in BYU's nursing program when I get back. As a missionary, I voluntariliy dedicate my life for 18 months to the service of the Lord and to inviting others to come unto Christ through receiving His restored gospel. I know that the Savior lives, that He loves us, and that He was sent to atone for us - to suffer for our sins and die for us. He did all of this for us, his brothers and sisters - fellow children of a loving Heavenly Father. All of this He did in order to fulfill God's Plan of Happiness so that we might be able to live with Him and with our families in the life to come. I know that there is a life after this one and that eternal joy awaits us if we are willing to accept and live the doctrine of Christ while we are on this earth.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. I was born and raised in this church. For quite some time, I relied on the beliefs of my parents and leaders. At age 13, I realized that such dependence was not good enough. I was not convinced of the church's truthfulness or even of the existence of a God. I needed to know for myself if the church was (and is) true. I began to, daily, read scriptures, pray, and write down my spiritual experiences. Over the course of several months, I began to feel God's love. I knew, with a surety that my Heavenly Father was a loving and just God who had sent his beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to suffer for my sins. I knew these things by the power of the Holy Spirit. As my testimony strengthened, I was able to believe in the rest of the gospel that I had lived for 13 years. I realized the power of the Joseph Smith story, the truthfulness of the restored Priesthood on the earth, the reality that prayers can be answered through scripture study, the opportunity for my family to live together for eternity in the afterlife. As I gained belief in various aspects of my religion, I began to feel the power of the adversary. The devil invites us to be lazy and to steer away from the truth. Everyday, I work at my faith in order to become closer to God. Today, I know, without a doubt, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. Do as James directs (James 1:5), and ask of God for yourself!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by example. I try to, as Matthew says, "Let [my] light so shine before men, that they may see [my] good works and glorify their God which is in Heaven." I try to make good decisions so that people around me will notice a difference. I try to love everyone. I know that the people around me can feel the love of the Savior through me if I am worthy enough to stand as that vehicle. Because I know that the Lord deeply loves and cares for everyone of His children, I try to make sure that everyone I come in contact with feels love in some way.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Mara Thomas (Hermana Thomas)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is established exactly as it was when Christ was on the earth. Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, was the prophet at the time. The twelve apostles helped him to spread his work. Today, President Thomas S. Monson leads and guides the church under the direction of Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Ghost and modern-day revelation. In the Book of Mormon, Moroni 10:5 states that, "by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." God does not forsake his children in this day. He continues to reveal His plan to His children on earth. We, his children, can be beneficiaries of that revelation through the power of the Holy Spirit. I have prayed to know whether Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet of God and proclaim with a surety that he is. The same is the case with Joseph Smith. He was not crazy or a fool, but truly God's messenger, foreordained to restore Christ's church upon the earth. Show more Show less
