Hi I'm Garry

Born depression of the '30s, father drafted in WW 2, father of four , Captain of Marines, Airline captain, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born during the depression of the 1930's and when I was 5 years old my father was drafted into the Navy and spent the next 2 1/2 year away leaving my mother and four sons while he served in the Pacific during WWII. As a youth, I was taught to find good friends and to do my best. I worked my way through Collage, joined Sigma Chi fraternity, and the US Marine Corps PLC program. After graduation I received a commission in the Marines, where I learned to fly helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, and later became a Airline pilot flying DC6, DC8, Boeing 737, 727, 757, 767, and DC10s. I was a Captain of Marines and an Airline Captain. We've had many opportunities to travel and see beauty of this world and its people. We found that parents everywhere loved their children and wanted them to be happy and cared for. My wife, Marian, and I raised four sons. We tried to raise them with spiritual and moral values. With help, they have become active church members and strong, useful and independent professional men. We enjoy the outdoors, fishing and hunting, golfing, and small boating. We have served in the Church in many calling and were missionaries in New Zealand. We presently help run a cannery that assists people to prepare for their family security and for charitable giving.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS Church, but my conviction of its truths came a great deal later. I was blessed with loving parents and knew that they, and God loved me. However, there was a period where as a young man I doubted and thought I'd experiment outside the Church. For a time, I tried to keep one foot in the Church and one foot across the line. I quickly learned that this didn't work, and with great relief, and great contrition, returned to the Church. Getting totally involved in the Church, I reread the Book of Mormon, the Bible and other Scriptures. Convinced that this was where I could find peace and that the Book of Mormon was true. If that were so, then Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ, and through Him and His Sacrifice and Grace and Mercy I can be happy in this life, and be with my family hereafter.

How I live my faith

We were married in the LDS temple by Spencer W.Kimball, and raised our family in the church, I have served in many callings in the Church including Sunday School teacher, Elders President, H P group leader, Ward Bishopric(s), Stake athletic director, and presently the Stake Cannery specialist. Of course I am a home teacher. My wife and I were blessed to serve a Mission together in the Auckland New Zealand Mission, a very rewarding and spiritual experience among wonderful people. Our four sons have also served missions in Dusseldorf Germany, Quito Ecuador, Okayama Japan. and Dresden Germany.
