Hi I'm Barb Palmer

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and a mother. I gave birth to 7 children and then became legal guardians to 2 teenage children a few years ago. I have had the opportunity to have many other children live in our home too. Right now I am also a very happy grandma of 18 children with 2 more on the way, and I expect many more in the future. I graduated from college with a double degree in Early childhood and elementary education. I never actually taught in the public schools, since I had my first child 1 month before my graduation day. However, I have used my education skills as I ended up home schooling all 9 of my children at home. As part of my home schooling I started a home school support group in our area which is still going on, even though I have now moved on from this since my youngest graduated from high school a few years ago. I am also the owner of a home based business. We do bulk mailing jobs for other businesses and not only save them money but time in getting their mailing jobs out. I taught childbirth classes for years and helped to bring many babies into the world, both in the hospital and at home. I acted as their doula, and sometimes even the midwife when no one else was around. Being involved in birth truly made me feel closer to my Heavenly Father. It has also been wonderful to be at and help with my own children's births. The Lord truly has been good to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because I have come to know for myself that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. I was born into a Mormon family and so many could say that this is why I am a Mormon, but I still had to come to know for myself that the gospel was true, and that all the things I had been taught as a child were true. It wasn't until I went away from home to college that I finally came to know for myself that the things I had been taught as a child were true. I learned for myself, by following the commandments of God that this was the pathway for me. I continue to follow his teachings, because I can feel of his love and guidance each and every day of my life as I turn to the Lord in prayer and seek to do his bidding. Now living in Indiana away from my family and the strong church basis I had to stand on my own beliefs.

How I live my faith

I have served in many capacities in our church. Over the years I have had opportunities to serve in the Primary organization which is for children up to 12 years old. I did this for many years as my children were involved in this program too, so it was fun to be working with them. I also served as a cubmaster in the scouting organization for all the years that my children were involved in this, and then moved right into the scouting program helping many boys over the years to achieve their eagle scout badge. I am currently still serving as the advancement chairman in our scout troop. I also served for many years in our young women's program which is for girls 12-18 years old. I love the youth, and loved being able to be a positive influence in their lives. I also served for a few years as an early morning seminary teacher which gave me the opportunity to really study the scriptures in depth so that I could then teach them to this very interested 14-18 year olds. Currently I am serving as the President of our women's organization the Relief Society. I have served in this capacity a few times before, and always enjoy having the many opportunities to get to know the sisters better and to serve them.
