Hi I'm Melanie

I grew up in Idaho. I teach children. I'm a mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a wonderful family where I have always felt loved and cared for. Growing up, we loved spending time together water skiing, riding horses, and camping. As a teen I loved swim team, but was injured and ended up having the first of 3 surgeries performed when I was 16. I still love swimming, but have never been able to race again. Once I graduated from High school, I attended BYU-Idaho and received a degree in Elementary Education. I have always loved working with and teaching children in many different atmospheres. I've taught swimming lessons, special education, and in the classroom (4th, 5th and 1st grades). Eventually I began working in Utah where I met my sweetheart. We now live in Pennsylvania while my husband attends Penn State and I teach 4th grade online. We have recently expanded our little family by adding a beautiful little girl.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been am member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints for my whole life. As a child, I found that I believed what I was being taught mostly because I knew my parents believed it. As I grew, I gradually developed a testimony of my own through various experiences. I gained a testimony of the love of my Heavenly Father through my various teaching experiences. As a teacher I found that I could have patience and love for each of my students by praying for my Heavenly Father to help me see them as he saw them. This love was developed most as I worked with children who had special needs. Their love and compassion for everyone around them is an amazing example to me of the love of my Heavenly Father. Now, as a new mother, I feel the love that my Heavenly Father has for my sweet little baby. I can feel and see the love as I look into her eyes and care for her each day. I gained a testimony of Jesus Christ as I learned about and applied the Atonement in my life. We are taught that Christ performed the Atonement to redeem each of us from our sins, and also that he would be able to succor each of us through our individual and unique trials and tribulations. As I have applied the Atonement throughout my life I have found peace and joy. As a young missionary far from home, I found peace and comfort during hard times. I was also able to deal with the pain of multiple surgeries and recoveries through the uplifting grace and help of my Savior. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God because I have read and pondered the words found there. Knowing this helped me to gain my own testimony of Joseph Smith as a prophet of God. I know that he was visited by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and given the keys and understanding to establish Christ's church again on this earth. I know through these and many other experiences that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the fullness of the Gospel on earth today.

How I live my faith

I have been able to live and exemplify my faith in many ways throughout my life. Currently, I am enjoying teaching my little one about the Gospel and look forward to helping her gain her own testimony of the things I know to be true. I also enjoy serving and getting to know others around me by visiting, performing acts of service, and spending time with people in the church and community around me.
