Hi I'm Clint

I am a Biologist. I thought I would be an Atheist, but instead I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, my name is Clint. I am an only child. I have a great interest in animals and am currently a graduate student studying Evolutionary Ecology. I have worked at Disney's Animal Kingdom and lived for two years with the people of Peru. I like mountain biking and basically any sport you might like to play. I just got married a few weeks ago to the most wonderful woman in the world. I am on a great adventure.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Methodist family, but little by little lost my belief in God. I never ruled out the possibility of there being a god, but I knew that I didn't know who he was or what he expected of me. I was taught growing up that I could either believe in God or in science, so I picked science. There was just more evidence for it. However, I still thought that if there was a God and any kind of salvation it would be important to know. When I was 18 my mother could see that I was not going to continue on in our Christian faith, so she prayed that I would be surrounded by people to bring me to Christ. I started making friends in the LDS church and started to have questions. I began to read a copy of The Book of Mormon that we had in our home and when missionaries knocked on my door I let them in. I asked them a lot of questions. I went to church with them and continued reading The Book of Mormon. When I prayed to know if The Book of Mormon is true, I felt a peace in my heart unlike any I had ever felt before and for the first time in my life I knew that there was a God. I knew by the Holy Ghost that The Book of Mormon was true and therefore that Jesus Christ is my savior and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I was baptized just a few days later. The things that I have learned in The Church of Jesus Christ have changed the kind of person that I am. I have become kinder, more optimistic, and above all a happier person than I have ever been before. I used to doubt that we could ever know for sure that God exists, but I know now that he does. That's why I'm a Mormon

How I live my faith

I read my scriptures every day. That has given me great strength to change my life. There are a lot of things that we do that don't make us happy and that we wish we wouldn't do. Often we can't see the ways to change them, but we can if we do the right things. I pray every day for the strength to do a little better than I did the day before. It is amazing how a happy life is built one day at a time. I go to church every Sunday and keep Sunday special. I spend Monday night with my family and we grow closer together through fun and meaningful activities. I try to put family first in all of my decisions.

What is faith?

Faith is trust. I think that if we have faith in something or someone we put trust in them. Faith in Jesus Christ really isn't faith unless we are willing to follow his example and live by his teachings. If not, we may believe that he is the Savior, but we do not have faith in him. Faith in true principles leads to knowledge. After we show our faith, we can receive a witness from God that what we believe is true. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Growing up in another church, paid clergy seemed perfectly normal to me. Of course you would have to pay somebody to lead the church. Who would do it for free? I also noticed that there were other churches in town which were far more popular and their leaders got paid a lot more than our pastor. They had a more exciting, more fun massage. God wants for us to be happy and He knows exactly how to be happy. His message doesn't make someone happy or feel good for just a few minutes, but forever. Sometimes His teachings aren't popular in the moment and we don't always see how they are going to benefit us from the beginning. If his messengers were dependent on the people for their support there would potentially be a temptation to teach what is popular over what is truly from God. For this reason, and likely many others, God asks regular members of the church to volunteer to lead the church with the sole motivation being to please the Lord and bless those around them. It is a sacrifice, but the blessings far outweigh the cost. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

This is the most amazing thing in the world! I was always frustrated by doubt regarding religion. How can we know if what we believe is true? God never meant for us to walk in darkness. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is either true or it is not. The evidence is The Book of Mormon. If The Book of Mormon is true, than Jesus Christ really is the son of God. If the Book of Mormon is true than the church, the doctrine, and the authority of God and Christ are again upon the earth. They truly were restored through a profit, Joseph Smith, as they had been many times before. If The Book of Mormon is true than we really are the children of God and all the promises that He has given us are true. God asks us to study, to ponder, and pray to know if The Book of Mormon is true. I have done so many times, and I know that it is true. I never imagined that God would really let us know. I didn't know that He still communicated with His children. I didn't even know if He was real. But, the peace I felt in my heart as I pondered about The Book of Mormon after having read it and asked God with a true desire to know put all of my questions to rest. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

We absolutely believe the Bible to be the word of God. The Bible is very important to us, and has been a great source of strength and direction for me in my life. In addition to the Bible, which contains the words of the prophets in the Old World, we believe that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and contains the words of the prophets on the American continents. Both testify of Jesus Christ and the love our Heavenly Father has for us. I love them both. Because I prayed to know that The Book of Mormon is true, I also know that the Bible is true.
