Hi I'm Jocelyn Canizales

I was born and raised in Mesa, AZ. I am a current college student and I'm a Mormon. :)

About Me

I am currently in my third semester of college and will be majoring in Linguistics. I am fluent in Spanish and currently learning Chinese. I love visiting my family in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, reading books, going camping, hiking, running, getting to know people from different cultures, dancing, and getting together with family and friends. The list could go on and on!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was fortunate enough to be born in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, due to my parents' conversion. Though growing up with the teaching's and principle's of Christ, I was not always as obiedient as I should have been. Then one day, during my junior year of high school, I finally did some critical thinking and began to analyze my life. I remember thinking, "What am I doing with my life? I know this is not how I am supposed to be living. I know I have a divine role and purpose in life. Why am I not doing the things the Lord requires of me?" From that day forth, I made a covenant (a promise) with my Father in Heaven to strive to become like His son, Jesus Christ. Soon after, I began studying the Book of Mormon and I prayed to know if the words that are contained in this book were true. My answer was an immediate overwhelming feeling of the Holy Spirit, testifying to me that this book was indeed true and that Joseph Smith did truly translate it through the power of God. This testimony has also helped me to know of a surety that this is indeed the Church of Jesus Christ and that He lives.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by teaching children in a Sunday School class. I help the children learn, understand, and apply principles from scripture stories. I also serve on two Young Single Adult committees. Here, I help plan and organize activites and service projects for young single adults. My mother and I also visit sisters from our ward, make sure all is well with them, and share a monthly message. The way I truly live my faith is by striving to become more and more like my Savior, Jesus Christ.
