Hi I'm David Anthony Rookhuyzen

I'm a college student studying journalism. I'm a Trekkie, movie/TV buff, and bookworm. I love a good story. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college senior finishing up a bachelor's degree in journalism. I've written for a small town newspaper and a statewide wire service as a health, education, and social issues reporter. My goal is to find work as a reporter at any place that will have me - be it newspaper, magazine, or website. In my spare time I'm a TV/movie buff and can repeat lines from movies verbatim sometimes after only seeing them once. I love science fiction and, of course, have an encyclopedic knowledge of Star Trek. I also love classic literature, especially the works of Charles Dickens, H.G. Wells, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I acted all through junior high and high school and have a love of acting and public speaking (amazing how often those two coincide!). In general I enjoy learning and will often be found browsing Wikipedia in my free time just to learn something new. After 28 years of almost sickly good health, I was involved in a serious car accident during a storm and broke five ribs, along with fracturing a scapula and my pelvis.

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know it is the true church of the Savior on the Earth. I have felt the Holy Ghost telling me this is the truth. I have received answers to my prayers and have even seen miracles on my life as I have called on the Lord.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by reading the scriptures, praying, being charitable, and always trying to learn more of what God expects of me. I attend ward meetings every Sunday. I'm in charge of Sunday School in my ward and I help teachers talk about the Gospel. I served a mission in Viña del Mar, Chile between 2002 and 2004.
