Hi I'm Lyssa

I'm a student, a musician, and a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student in my third year of college. I'm studying English and history, which I love, but I follow science and technology news as a hobby. Especially the Mars rovers and space news. It inspires me to see human beings reaching for what was thought impossible. Right now I'm honing my writing skills by ghostwriting young adult fiction, in the hopes of being a real writer eventually. I love writing poetry and short fiction in my spare time. Other interests include music (both playing and listening), art history, and fencing. In short, I love knowledge and books of all kinds, and one day I hope to be a teacher and help other young people appreciate learning as much as I do.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that this church and this doctrine are true. I was raised by Mormon parents, but never had a sense that it was true or really mattered until my early teens. That was when I devoted myself to a serious study of the Book of Mormon. It was during this study that I came to the realization that this book could never have been written without divine inspiration. From that it followed that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, that there was a God, and that He loved me. Since that time, hundreds of spiritual experiences have wholly convinced me of the truth of this gospel. These experiences are small, no more than a feeling usually, and come during prayer, while I read the scriptures, during church services or while I read or listen to the words of the living prophets. But together they have given me a strong faith in God and His love for us, and that this is His church.

How I live my faith

I love participating in my congregation. Currently, I play the piano and lead the singing for the children. I love working with them, and in the past I have taught children's Sunday school as well. I also play the piano for the main congregation sometimes. Since I have musical skills, I am in high demand, especially since I currently live in an area with a low population of Mormons. However, the most important thing is the way I live my faith personally. I try to help and serve everyone around me - my family, friends, classmates, even people I meet on the street. I do my best to make people happy and lift their burdens if I can. My faith is about Christlike love, and I live it by developing that love in myself.
