Hi I'm Porter Clayton
I am a memeber of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am currently serving my mission in the Texas Houston East Spanish Speaking Mission. I play college baseball at the University of Oregon. My dream is to one day play professional baseball. I am the oldest of 5 kids in my family. I love my family! I know that this is the only true religion. Nothing can describe the happiness and satisfaction one feels as being a member of this true church!
Why I am a Mormon
I am Mormon because I know it is true. I was raised Mormon and it has blessed my life from the beginning. I have an amazing family and I know we can live together forever through this great gospel. I also have developed everlasting friendships in the gospel that I will forever cherish. Nothing can substitute for the great blessing of being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
How can your talents and gifts bless others?
Our talents and gifts are something that our Heavenly Father has given us. Everybody has their own special talents and gifts! One gift that our Heavenly Father has given me is the ability to play baseball. I love baseball! I've spent my whole life traveling and playing the game of baseball. As I got older though, I noticed things such as tobacco and alcohol became "normal" when I was around my teammates. It was really hard for me because I didn't want to lose their trust and respect by not partaking, but I noticed that because I told them "no" and held onto my testimony, they respected me even more. Everybody can use their talents and gifts by being an example of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and doing the things that we know are right!
Why do Mormons go on missions?
I decided to serve a mission because simply that is what our Heavenly Father has asked from us. Jesus Christ himself commanded us to "go and teach all nations" his Gospel. I am grateful for a prophet of God that has put forth our Heavenly Father's call for all willing, and worthy young men to serve and preach his gospel. It is the greatest decision I have made up to this point in my life. All young men should prepare and live worthy to respond to this wonderful commandment from our Heavenly Father.
How I live my faith
I live my faith my being an example to others. My parents taught me when I was young that your example to others is what you will be remembered by. I have played baseball my entire life. One way that I have been able to show my example to others is on the baseball field. Before my mission, I had the opportunity to play college baseball at the University of Oregon. I was one of only two Mormon baseball players on the team, and it really tested my testimony. I know though that with faith and through the help of God, He will help us through any trials we may encounter. Everyday I strive to be an example and show people that God will help us through whatever trial we will face in life.
