Hi I'm Catherine

I'm an elementary school teacher, travel enthusiast, and obsessed with the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently live in Omaha Nebraska where I teach English to refuge students in an elementary school. I love my students they are amazing, they teach me so much every day and enrich my life. When I'm not teaching I love being with my husband and being outside. We love to water ski, snow ski, rock climb, hike, snow shoe, and kayak. We also love to travel and learn about other cultures and people. Wherever I go I always have a good book with me, I can't get enough of reading and am usually thinking about what I will read next. I hope I can pass my love of reading onto my students.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the sense of peace and direction that it gives me in my life. Living the Latter Day Saint faith is the only true way to happiness, the commandments given to us are a way to bless and enrich our lives. It is similar to the analogy of a kite. Often people look at the string on a kite and think it holds the kite down when really that is the thing that keeps the kite flying. If you were to cut the string it would fall to the ground. That is the same with the commandments, many confuse them as things that hold us back when in reality they give us the ability to reach our fullest potentials. Living our Word of Wisdom for example which teaches us to abstain from Alcohol and Drugs blesses my life because I do not have to worry about the harmful addictions that these substances can create. The commandments have been a blessing and protection for me throughout my entire life. My family is everything to me and I am so grateful for my knowledge that through the Gospel I can be with my family forever. My husband and I were sealed in the temple so we know that we will live for all eternity as a family. Living the Gospel of Jesus Christ blesses us with strengthened family relationships. As we study the life of the Savior we yearn to be more like Him, as we apply these principles in our lives we are blessed. The Gospel blesses us with an understanding of where we came from, why we are here and where we are going. As we come to learn about and truly know our Savior we start to grasp our true potential of what we can become.

How I live my faith

I teach the Gospel to the children in our church. It is amazing how close the children are to their Heavenly Father. Every week we teach a Gospel principle to the children and it always turns out that I learn more from them than I could ever teach them. Our lives are blessed by being around children. I live my faith by striving to strengthen my relationship with my Savior and with my family. I do this by daily personal prayer, scripture study and service to others. When we serve others here on earth it is the same as serving our Savior. My scripture study consists of The Book of Mormon and The Bible. Both of these works of scripture have answered many questions and given me direction numerous times in my life. As we pray to our Heavenly Father for answers we often find those answers as we search the scriptures. In the Book of Mormon we learn more about the Savior and how we can develop a deeper more personal relationship with Him. As I focus on doing this everyday my actions are more aligned with what my Heavenly Father would have me do. This can only bring peace and happiness into my life.

What do Mormons believe about family?

We believe that the family is the not only the fundamental unit of our society here on Earth but also the fundamental unit of our eternal families. We believe that families can be together forever and that through the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ we are meant to live in families so that we can grow, and learn together and eventually return to our Heavenly Father.
