Hi I'm Janelle

I live in a small town in Indiana. I'm a wife, a mother, teacher at the high school and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married and a mother of 4 (now adult) kids and a cat and "Grandmother" to 2 dogs. I was a later in life student and recently got a degree in special ed. I do various volunteer activities but my favorite times are spent with Special Olympics. I teach at the local high school and will admit it--I enjoy teenagers!! In my spare time (if I have any) I like to read and am a sucker for reality tv shows. I also enjoy spending time with my family immediate and extended. I also like to cook, but don't really enjoy cleaning up afterwards. I like to go for walks and in the summer love to lay by the pool in the sun (but I do try to remember the sunscreen!).

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the LDS church but didn't really have any feelings one way or another about it. When I was 17, I quit going to church. Fast forward about 6 years. At this point I had a 3 year old daughter (Michelle) and felt the need to start teaching her about Jesus. After discussing this with my husband (who was raised Catholic), we decided that I would start to explore the churches in the area and find one for our family to go to. After several months, I found one that I enjoyed. The people were friendly, it was close to home and if I didn't want to go that week, my neighbor would take my daughter with her to Sunday School. Then, one Sunday I went to pick Michelle up from her class and heard the teacher telling the kids something that I just didn't believe. It was then that I decided to investigate for myself if the things my parents had taught me were true. I read the Book of Mormon, talked to the missionaries and prayed to know what I should do. One day I got the unmistakable feeling that I needed to go back to the church of my childhood. As I made the changes in my life that I needed to in order to get myself back on the right track, I felt an inner peace that I had never experienced. I know that it was the Spirit assuring me that I was doing the right thing. 25 years later, I have never regretted it.

How I live my faith

Most of my lifetime in the church I have worked with the children or teens of our congregation. I enjoy all of the time that I spend teaching and associating the young people. Currently, I also volunteer a couple days a month working in the office at the Louisville Kentucky Temple.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Janelle
If you have faith in Jesus Christ, you will believe what he as taught and you will want to live your life in agreement with his teachings. As an example to us, he spent much of his life showing his love for others by serving them. He was concerned about their needs above his own. If we try to conduct ourselves in a similar manner, we will be successful in all of our relationships. More importatly, we will be happy within ourselves. I have learned that as I look outside of myself to help others and think about their feelings, I am happier inside! Show more Show less
