Hi I'm Linda

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have 6 children, 20 grandchildren and1 great grandchild on the way.

About Me

I keep busy doing my favorite thing - Family History. I like to find out as much as I can about my ancestors. I have collected many histories, photos, and writings of my ancestors. I keep a personal pedigree of my roots going back many generations, on my home genealogy computer program. I also love to work in the yard and have a vegetable and herb garden as well as flowers. I also love to read. I enjoy reading history and historical fiction, political and international thrillers, and autobiographies. I enjoy reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon most of all. In my church I teach a Family History Class and help friends and neighbors get started and pursue their family history. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has several great websites for helping those who belong to our church AND THOSE WHO DO NOT BELONG TO OUR CHURCH find their ancestors. These sites are free. There is a Family History Center near you. These centers are open to the general public.

Why I am a Mormon

Having Mormon parents, I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since I was 8 years old. But there came a time, when I desired to be CONVERTED to that religion, (to know FOR MYSELF, by God's revelation, that it is the true Church). I prayed as a young mother to KNOW. I was reading the Book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price (Mormon scriptures). When I read about Enoch & his great vision, my heart was touched. I read that the Earth groaned & that God wept. The literature was so very beautiful, I wept also. At that moment, the Spirit burned into every particle of my being that these were the true words of God, & that they were correctly translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith. This was the 1st time I had a witness from the Holy Ghost of the truth. Years later I attended Education Week at BYU in Provo, UT. The Class by Lynn A. McKinlay was called Life Eternal. From the Bible, Book of Mormon & Pearl of Great Price which proved each other, he taught of things in the life hereafter for those who make covenants with God & keep them, of Temples, of Priesthood Keys restored to righteous men on the earth by angels in the Latter Days, of the necessity to have the same Priesthood keys & power on the earth today that the ancient prophets & apostles had in former times, the same keys that were restored to Joseph Smith & passed on to every living Prophet in our Church down to the present one. I had heard this information many times before. BUT this time, the Holy Ghost bore a witness to me that these things were true in such a powerful way that I was overcome & began to weep uncontrollably for joy in class & had to step into the hall where I could weep privately. Because of these 2 very real, personal & spiritual experiences, (& others), I have remained a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I DO KNOW For MYSELF, by the Spirit & revelation, that this is God's true church. ANYONE can receive this same witness if they seek it.

How I live my faith

My husband & I attend 3 Church meetings back-to-back each Sunday: First, In SACRAMENT MEETING we partake of the emblems of the Atonement of Jesus Christ & inwardly assess our spiritual standing, enjoy inspirational talks & music. The 2nd meeting is an age-related SUNDAY SCHOOL, (children, teens, & adults). In one adult class they study from the scriptures about God the Father, his Son Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, & various other Gospel doctrines. Presently, I teach a S.S. class on FAMILY HISTORY dealing with research & home & internet genealogy programs. In the 3rd Sunday meeting Children attend Primary; Teens attend Young Men's or Young Women's; adults attend Priesthood Meeting (men) or Relief Society Meeting (women). Relief Society & Priesthood are service & education oriented organizations. Gospel topics are taught & service projects planned in these classes, along with monthly activities. We enjoy the association of others & of the Spirit in these Sunday & weekday meetings. Each adult male & each adult female in our Church are given a special stewardship to look after 2 or 3 other families in our Church area - Home Teaching (men) or VISITING TEACHING (for the women).. We become good friends, look after their temporal & spiritual needs, visit them each month with a Gospel message & a friendly chat, & phone them from time to time when appropriate. If someone in our stewardship is ailing or hospitalized, we provide meals, help with yard & housework, transportation, or child care, according to the need. Everyone in the stewardship receives care & friendship. We contribute to food drives & donate to humanitarian aid. Service in the community is also important. I have been an election judge, voting dist. chair., playground supervisor, assisted living reader, etc. Monday night is set aside for Family Home Evening. Members of the family spend this night together for activities, gospel study, talent sharing, family calendar, family councils, good eats, etc.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Linda
I once asked a convert to our church what had prompted him to investigate our church. He replied that he was a student of the Bible. He felt that the true church should have the same offices and organization that Christ's Church had when He established it on the earth. He felt that it must have Prophets and Apostles, a temple, and revelations. He felt it must be a church that baptizes by immersion, since that is how Christ was baptized, and He is our great example in all things. He felt that it should be named after Jesus Christ. Since Christ often referred to His Father in Heaven, he felt that it must be a church that believed that there was a separate Father God who had a Son whom He sent to earth to save mankind from sin and death through the atonement and resurrection. Jesus had said the Father sent Him. It wouldn't make sense for Jesus to mean I sent myself. He said he had investigated several religions and could not find all these qualifications in any of them. He prayed to know which church was the true church. The convert said, when the Mormon missionaries came and taught him Heavenly Father's Plan and told him about our life in Heaven before we were born on this earth, and about the life after this one, he said it was all very familiar to Him, and the Spirit bore witness to him that what the missionaries were teaching was the truth.
