Hi I'm Helene

I'm a Mormon. I was baptized a member of the Church in 1947 when membership reached 1 million. Am I the millionth? Don't know!

About Me

I grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii where the ocean was a great part of my life. I love to swim and have taught many children and some adults not to be afraid of the water, but to swim and enjoy it. After I graduated from high school I attended The Church College of Hawaii and BYU Provo and received my Masters Degree in Sociology/Psychology when I was only 20 years of age. I later married my childhood sweetheart and we've been happily married for 46 years. We have two daughters, one son and seven grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because at an early age my parents taught me that I am a child of a Heavenly Father who is real and the most magnificent personage in the whole universe who knows each of us and loves us as His own. I have come to love Him so very much. They also taught me to love our Savior Jesus Christ who came to earth to teach us how we could return to our Heavenly Father and offered us that opportunity through His great Atonement. I also learned that the Holy Ghost is my guide and constant companion if I choose to do as our Savior has taught. I have found the Holy Ghost to be such a help to me as I try to choose the right in my daily life, to be good to others, to know the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and to always be happy that I am a member of His true Church on earth.

How I live my faith

I am a retired Bookstore Manager in a local high school, and because I love high school students, I return often to serve them as a Substitute Teacher. While I am there I try to not only see that they learn something each day, but I try to treat them with fairness and express to them that I care about them as I am sure that our Savior would have me do. I have made many wonderful friends on that campus, many years my junior. I also teach Sunday School in our local congretation. I teach adults who are new members of the Church and my responsibility is to help them understand who they are, why they are here and to know of the saving principles of the gospel which will help them not only return to our Heavenly Father but to enjoy every day of their lives with more meaning and more joy. I have also been a Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America in swimming, lifesaving, and all 3 citizenship merit badges for over 35 years. I love to see our Boy Scouts achieve greatness in their lives.
