Hi I'm Matt

I grew up in the church, have live in five states in the US, am happily married iwth four children, and i'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up mostly in the Western United States and have always enjoyed the outdoors. I like hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, camping – basically anything that gets me outside and into nature. I have always believed there was more to live than just getting through it. I have also always had an inward drive – something pushing me to accomplish something and make a difference. I receive dual bachelor’s degrees in business management and computer information systems and just finished up a Master’s of Business Administration. I served a two year church mission in the Southern United States. I am married to the love of my life and we have four children.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for several reasons. First, I have wonderful parents who showed me what it means to be a follower of the Savior. I knew they believed in Jesus Christ because of the way they lived their life. Second, I began reading the Book of Mormon on my own when I was about 16. I read it almost every day and before long I began to recognize the days I read from the book and the days I didn’t. Life was better and I was a better person on the days I read. Third, as a missionary I told and re-told the story of Joseph Smith – I felt and feel a sense of calm and conviction every time I shared it. I know Joseph Smith saw the things he said he saw – I don’t worship Joseph Smith but I am thankful for all he did to help strengthen my faith. Fourth, I have received many answers to prayers confirming it is true – I have felt a warmth and a calm in my heart that is undeniable. God has spoken to my heart – He answered me personally. Finally, I have applied the teaching and they work. I have a general sense of peace and contentment. I am happy with my life, who I am and where I am headed. It is a sense of well-being and peace that is worth more than anything else in this life.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is a big part of what I do every day. I commit time every morning to say my prayers and study the scriptures and the words of living prophets. My family and I say prayers each morning, at every meal, and before we go to bed each night. We also spend time each night reading the scriptures together. We set aside time each Monday night for extra study and family time – it is a night committed to becoming closer together as a family and closer to God. I try to live my life in a way that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ would be proud of. There is a common phrase repeated by many Christians which asks “What would Jesus do?” I try to ask myself that question often and then pattern my life after the Savior Jesus Christ. I know Jesus lives. I know He came in the meridian of time, that he was born of the virgin Mary, that He lived a perfect life, healing the sick and raising the dead. I know He suffered and died because He loves me and because He wants me to live with Him again. I know if I repent and try my best that I can return to Him someday. That knowledge changes everything.
