Hi I'm Nicole Decker

I live in a small farming town in Washington state. I ballroom dance, I love music, I'm a missionary, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary serving in the Italy Rome mission. I have finished one year at BYU and plan to go back after I complete my missionary service. I have a great passion for music: I play the flute and I can play piano (but not very well), I love to sing and dance. I did ballroom dance for 5 years and I absolutely loved it! I have a great love for my family and for the gospel, and I am so excited to be able to share the gospel with the people of Italia!

Why I am a Mormon

When I was little, church was just something we did as a family. It was fun, but it didn't mean a lot to me. I got baptized when I was eight, but I didn't understand the fulll impact that it would have on my life. As I got older, knowing the right answers to my Sunday School and Primary teachers' questions became important to me, but it took me a long time before I was really converted. Learning about the struggles of the early saints really helped to jump start my testimony, which I think I've always had, but didn't really realize. On both sides of my family, I come from lines of "pioneer stock", meaning that my ancestors crossed the plains of America in covered wagons and handcarts in the 19th century. I know that they are with Heavenly Father now, and making them proud became a big goal of mine in my early teenage years. I read the Book of Mormon through cover to cover and did it prayerfully, because I wanted to know if it was true. I didn't have a big "hallelujah" moment, but I know that it is the word of God revealed to Joseph Smith, and that it is for the people of our day. My testimony came gradually, little by little, progressing page by page as I read each night. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have received a witness for myself that it is God's true church, revealed and restored by His word and His Spirit. I know that Heavenly Father is pleased with my decision to be a part of His gospel.

How I live my faith

Presently I am serving as a missionary, so I am immersed in the gospel every day. However, as I finished the school year at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, I realized that my love for my Savior leads me to try and treat everyone around me as He would. I was blessed to serve as a Relief Society president for my ward there, and through that opportunity I was able to realize the immense love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have for each of us. I have made it a personal goal to try and share that love with everyone that I come in contact with. I have also developed a deep love for reading my scriptures and praying every day. As a missionary I know that I must rely on heavenly help in order to find and teach those who Heavenly Father has prepared for the message of the gospel. By doing those things that help keep me close to the Spirit, for my own benefit as well as for the people I meet every day. I also know that praying is how I communicate with my Heavenly Father, and I consider it an immense blessing to be able to thank Him for all that I have and to ask for specific blessings for myself and those I love. By reading my scriptures I am able to feel of God's love for me and learn those things that He would say to me if He were here. I am also able to receive personal revelation when I read my scriptures because doing so invites His Spirit.
