Hi I'm Bill Anderson

I grew up in South Georgia near the Okefenokee Swamp. I love anything that has to do with the great outdoors.

About Me

After graduating from high school I worked for a while in mobile home plants. Later I decided to go to college to get a degree in Agronomy "Plant Science". I wanted to help work the family farm. After graduating from college I could not find work in the Agriculture field. So I side stepped in to education. I was a Teacher for 13 years. I taught Sciences, Horticulture, Forestry, and Computers. As my family grew there was not enough money to meet my children’s needs. So I went back to college to work in the Computer Industry. I will be graduating with and IT degree December 2011. So I am 52 with two Bachelors, seven kids, and four grand kids. But hey I have loved every minute of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I decided to go on a mission for the church that my family was members of. Soon I was at the Missionary training center for the church. I worked hard with all the other Missionaries to learn. Then one day we were studying about how the angel Moroni had visited Joseph Smith in his room at night. I just did not believe such a thing could happen. Well I decided I was going to leave the Missionary training center. I told my instructor about it. He asked me what I was going to do. I told him “I was going to grow a beard and long hair and go to California. That I would never return home”. He saw I was serious. So he said to me. You know at the end of the Book of Mormon is a promise that if we read it and pray about it, the lord will tell us if it is true. It is found in Moroni 10:3-5. He asked me if I would read it and pray. I told him I would. That night I waited until everyone was asleep. Then I jumped out of bed and knelt near my bed. I began to pray. I asked heavily father if he was really there, if Jesus Christ was really the savior of the world. I started at the first of the bible in the old testament and moved through the new testament and named every person I had ever heard about and asked if they had been real, and was there teaching real. Then I did the same with the Book of Mormon. I then ran out of things to ask for. There just seemed to be nothing left in me. So I waited. Then I felt a presence come into the room and stand behind me. It touched me on the back of my head. Warmth filled me and ran down to my waist. I looked down and I could not feel it in my legs. So I said, “If you are going to give it to me I want to feel it all over”. With that it moved threw my legs. Then In my whole being I heard these words “Yes Bill, everything you asked me is true. And you will go on a mission and you will sever me all the days of your life”. I did go on a mission, and I have spent my whole life trying to live up to the answer I received.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have severed my brothers and sisters here on the earth in many ways. The one I like the most is Service. I have helped clean up after several hurricanes that have hit Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. I traveled with groups there with chain saws and removed trees from yards and off of houses. The best experience I had was in West Palm Beach. A hurricane had hit a larger trailer park that the elderly lived in. Many of the roofs of their houses were ripped off and tin lay everywhere. The Core of Engineers and surveyed the area, and was going to condemn the homes. There were 300 homes there. Many of the elderly had left when they heard that the storms were coming. If the trailer park was condemned they would have nothing to come home to. So the call went out. The local Methodist church provided food and water, other churches provided First aid. We the Mormons provided the labor. One thousand Mormons showed up Saturday morning and we worked all day and into the night. We returned on Sunday and finished the work. We cut off all the tin from rooms and cleaned up yards. We moved all the trash away from the park. We covered all the trailers with blue tarps and screwed them down to make temporary roofs. When we finished on Sunday we all came together in one spot. The tent of the Core of Engineers. We reported what had been done and waited for them to inspect. And to our great joy all the homes were saved. It was a combined effort of three Christian faiths, but it was the coolest thing I have ever seen, next to the birth of a child.
