Hi I'm Shar

I am a Civil Engineer. I love bowling. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from a large and loving family: mom, dad, and eleven kids. I claim the position of second oldest and love to death the five youngest, who were adopted through foster care. I love my family; we're awesome. Because I am currently serving as a missionary, I don't get to see family, but we correspond weekly via email. School is a favorite. I love learning why things work the way they do and figuring out ways to solve problems. I recently graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and jumped right into a master's degree in materials and pavements engineering. For two years, I worked as a research assistant going all over the country testing old concrete bridges for corrosion. Basically, I like playing with concrete. But, at present, my education is on hold while I serve as a missionary in California. I am a very goal oriented person. I love setting goals and making plans to become the kind of person I want to be. My all time favorite board game is CLUE! I love bowling and, believe it or not, I can lick my elbow :).

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored by a loving God through a living prophet. I know this because I have read the Book of Mormon and know it is true. I know it is true because I have prayed, in faith, to know for myself. This Book testifies and teaches of Christ. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, and know that His matchless life is central to the salvation of God's children. Through Him, we can become cleansed from the stain of all the dumb things we do and receive a hope for the future. As we follow the Savior's example in all things, we will be able to achieve our full potential as sons and daughters of God, which is eternal life and exaltation. The knowledge of this, God's plan for his children, brings much purpose, hope, and joy to my life. I was very blessed to grow up in a Latter-day Saint family where I was taught the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the exercise of my own agency, in testing out the gospel principles, I have gained a personal witness from my Father in Heaven that they are true and come from Him. I believe that I am a child of a loving God, who knows and loves me.

How I live my faith

Having a testimony of the gospel of Christ is no good unless it is put into action; therefore, I choose to do good and important things because I have a testimony of Jesus Christ. The gospel, for me, is a life-style. It's not just a Sunday thing. Each day I try to remember and express gratitude for the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ by praying often, studying the scriptures, and serving others. I regularly attend church and frequently read the words of the living prophet, Thomas Monson. Because of my strong belief in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world and my knowledge that living His gospel will bring us the fullest of joys, I want to share it with others. Although I am far from perfect, I am striving to do my best to live a life centered and founded on Jesus Christ and his teachings.
