Hi I'm Porter

I´ve run a couple half-marathons, I live(for now) in southern Chile, I play the Bagpipes, I'm an Eagle Scout, y soy mormón, po.

About Me

I am the 5th child of 10 kids- with two brothers and seven sisters. I love any and every sport. I've run two half-marathons in which I placed 1st and 3rd in my age group. I have taken piano, cello, bagpipes, clogging and voice lessons over the last 12 years. I am a member of the largest choral organization in the world, in which I played cello in the symphony orchestra as well as sung in one of the choirs. I've been a member of a fire department pipes and drums honor guard band, and was considered a volunteer fireman. I began taking college classes at our community college at the age of 13. I've competed in mock trials, where we acted out and played the part of lawyers and witnesses in a court of law. Consequently, law is now one of my favorite things to study. I am an Eagle Scout, and I have received the Duty to God Award, the highest award given to young men in LDS Church under the age of 18. I had the amazing opportunity to serve as a Young Performing Missionary in Nauvoo, Illinois for the summer of 2012. I worked for a concrete company, earning money to serve a two-year mission for the LDS Church, on which I am currently serving, in the Chile Osorno Mission. I plan to earn a BA in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University, as well as minor in Spanish and Political Science, and then attend the Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark School of Law. I'm going to be married in the LDS Temple, and raise a family in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon my entire life. I have remained a Mormon because of the feeling of hope, direction, light and love that I feel as a member of the Mormon Church. I have never felt this feeling anywhere else. I work with a man, who is not a Mormon, and he tells me how he feels that he is constantly searching--searching for a sense of direction, happiness, belonging, and friendship that he has not been able to find. He notices how happy and full of hope I am. And he asks me why I am so happy, and how I can have so much hope for the future when there is so much bad and unhappy things going on in the world. I explain to him that I am so full of happiness and hope because I have faith in the Lord, who knows and cares about each and every one of us, and knows what trials and difficulties we are going through. I also believe in Jesus Christ and I have a knowledge of His Gospel, which brings so much light and direction into my life that I cannot help but have so much joy and hope. I tell this lost, lonely man that he too can feel the same way I do, and that is through coming to a knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love spreading this message of joy and peace to those who truly need it. The gospel has taught me the profound importance of families. It has taught me who I am--a son of our Heavenly Father. I love knowing that fact that I can pray to a loving Father in Heaven, and He will hear and answer my prayers. This knowledge is comforting to me, and provides me with peace when I am in need of it. I know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ can provide peace and happiness to anyone who is truly in need of it.

How I live my faith

The way I live my faith is so important to me that I want to live my life in the same way. So much of what I do has a direct tie to my faith. I have the pleasure of being in a leadership position in the group of young men ages 16-18. It is a joy to work with such an amazing group of young men, who I not only associate with at church, but also outside of church. Everything I learn at church is applicable to everything I do, in or out of church. I love giving service to those who are in need of help. I love going to church each week to partake of the Sacrament and worship my Savior, Jesus Christ. I love reading and studying the scriptures. I love sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm so thankful that I can be serving a mission for my Savior, so I can share this great message of peace, love, light and happiness to those who are searching for it.
