Hi I'm Garrett Elkins

I'm an actor, a graduated honors student, a missionary serving in Pittsburgh PA, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I've moved several times within my childhood. I have recently graduated high school with honors, where I participated in Drama and Stagecraft. I plan to study Film in College. I am currently serving as a full-time missionary in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission, where I get to serve Heavenly Father's children daily. I have a wonderful family back home in Arizona which includes my Mom, Dad, and my younger brother, who I do love so much!

Why I am a Mormon

My grandmother past away in 2001, and two weeks later, Missionaries knocked on our door. Then my parents took me and my brother to church every Sunday. As I got older, I was able to listen to my teachers more and learn stories about the Book of Mormon and from the Doctrine and Covenants and wanted to learn more and more about Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost as well with the Atonement. Because I have been a member since I was five, I can't tell you the time and place when I gained a testimony of this work. But I do know one thing, I have received the gift of the Holy Ghost and It has testified to me, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true and living church on the Earth and I thank my Heavenly Father each and every day that He has given me a chance to be a member of His Church.

How I live my faith

As a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, my entire day surrounds the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I read from the scriptures and pray several times daily. I visit and teach people who want to know more about Jesus Christ. I live the standards that the Savior has established and "invite others to come unto Christ".

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Garrett Elkins
A frequently misunderstood belief of Mormons is that we do not read the bible. That is false, the subheading of the Book of Mormon is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" the first being the Holy Bible. The Bible and the Book of Mormon are a witness to the other. Without one, the other does not stand. The Book of Mormon references the Bible and the Bible prophecies of the Book of Mormon. Through these two sacred texts of scripture, one can come close to the Lord Jesus Christ and learn of His restored gospel. Show more Show less

What is the First Vision?

Garrett Elkins
In 1820, a 14 year-old boy named Joseph Smith was confused on which church to join because all of them claimed to be the only true church. Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees near his home to pray and ask his Heavenly Father which church was the true church. During his prayer, a bright light descended, and two personages, or two beings with the body of a man appeared unto him. The first spoke and told young Joseph to listen to His "Beloved Son", referring to the other personage who was the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. In this grove, and during that prayer, Joseph Smith was visited by God the Eternal Father and His son, Jesus Christ. Joseph then asked the Savior his question, as to which church was true? Christ then told Joseph that there was no church that contained the full truth of His gospel, and that Joseph should join none of the churches. But Jesus told Joseph that the true church would be established one day, not far from that time. Ten years later in 1830, Christ's promise was kept when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded. It is the true church Christ prophesied as it would be and still is the Lord's church till this very day. Show more Show less
