Hi I'm Devin Brooksby

I am an 19-year-old missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Vancouver Mission.

About Me

I love music. I love the peace that spiritual and uplifting music brings, and I love the joy of making it as well. I am a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as of 5 June 2015, and will continue to serve until June 2017. I spend my time serving people. I love watching people increase in joy. I love making people laugh and realize how much they are loved by the Lord. I love my family, and even though I can only talk to them weekly and call them twice yearly, we support my missionary service and often rejoice in this opportunity to allow me to serve the Lord. More than I love music, or even my family, I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. He is why I am what I am, and more than anything, I am happy. Jesus Christ loves me, and why should I fear when I'm doing His will? I have no fears when I know I'm doing Christ's will, I have only joy and peace. I know He loves you too. You can pray and know that too.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because, as I follow the Lord and do as He would have me do, I feel his love and approval and that brings me greater joy that I've felt doing anything else. I had the opportunity to march with the Bands of America Honor Band in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. That has been the climax of my musical career so far, but that just doesn't compare. I know that my Redeemer lives; I've felt His love. I know He loved me and cares about me more than I can know. I know that He knows what's best for me, so as I commit to doing His will, I'm committing to allow Him to continue to bring me happiness and joy for as long as I serve Him faithfully. I know that He speaks through His prophet. Today, that prophet is Thomas Spencer Monson, and President Monson. This I know because I know that I've been call by Jesus Christ, through His prophet, to serve a mission and I know that the mission I've been assigned to is the one my Lord would have me serve in, so I will serve Him faithfully there for two years. In general though, I'm a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ and I want to make Him happy with me.

How I live my faith

I am so very involved in church. I spend upwards of 5 1/2 hours a week in doing things with and for my church, and sometimes up to 7 hours just on Sunday. Some may call me crazy, but I call myself dedicated. I visit those I'm asked to visit for different responsibilities; I call those who may need help either physically or spiritual, and I sing and play songs of praise to my Savior. That last one is my favorite to do. Anything that will bring me closer to my Savior, I strive to do.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Devin Brooksby
God loves all of his children. Because of this, he doesn't want any of his children to be lost. We know that baptism is essential for Salvation, so God allows us to perform proxy baptisms for those who didn't have the oppertunity to be baptized and for those who were baptized without proper authority.
