Hi I'm Matthew

I am a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am also a photographer, ornithologist and java programmer.

About Me

I am an ornithologist, which means I love to study birds. I enjoy taking pictures and sound recordings of each species I find and record these experiences on a website, Matthew's Birds, that now contains over ninety species. I love to program on the computer in a programing language called Java and create modifications to the popular PC game, Minecraft. I am an Eagle Scout. I am the oldest of five other siblings who are my best friends. I recently graduated from high school and am now serving God's children on a two-year mission. I know that God has given me these gifts and I wish to serve Him by sharing His gifts to me with the world.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I have been raised by Mormon parents, I know for myself that the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ's teachings, are true. I know that God is our Heavenly Father who loves us and wants each of us to succeed. I know that he sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for us so that, through repentance, we can live with Heavenly Father again. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet, that he prayed to ask God which church he should join and that God and Jesus Christ appeared to him. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know these things because I have prayed, just like Joseph Smith, to know if they are true and the Spirit has taught me that they are. You can also know for yourself that they are true. I promise that if you pray and ask Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit will bring you peace and joy!

How I live my faith

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we promise to God that we will keep His commandments, always remember Jesus Christ, and take Christ's name upon us. God then promises that we can always have the Holy Spirit with us to teach and guide us. I work hard every day to keep my promise. Every morning and evening, I study the scriptures, the words of past and current prophets. By studying, I learn the commandments so that I can obey them. I also learn about Jesus Christ, which helps me to remember Him. I go to church every Sunday to learn about God and my Savior and to remember the promises I have made with them. I accept responsibilities given to be by church leaders, such as home teaching, visiting and teaching specific families of my congregation. Throughout the week, I try to be an example of Jesus Christ by helping others to feel God's love for them. I live so that the Spirit can be with me by avoiding addictive substances that can prevent me from hearing its promptings. I also don't swear, but use uplifting language that help the spirit to stay with me. Although I work hard everyday to do these things, I make mistakes frequently. When this happens, I repent. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ I can be forgiven and made clean. I trust in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, who each love us and want us to succeed.
