Hi I'm Wyatt Swicegood

I grew up in lots of different states. I love playing sports, shooting skeet and spending time with friends.

About Me

I was born and raised in a medium sized family with two older siblings. I spent a lot of time as a kid growing up around military equipment. My dad was a United States Marine, so most of my younger years were spent moving from military air base to military air base. I really enjoyed being able to get to tour and see things most kids don't ever get to see. I love to play most sports, but I'm not extraordinary at any of them. I'm particularly found of boxing and I love to ride motorcycles with my friends and family. I'm currently serving a mission in Warsaw, Poland. That means I spend less time playing sports and riding motorcycles and more time talking to strangers about Jesus Christ. I love being a missionary! Its a big sacrifice, but I love being able to help other people find out what is truly important in life!

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are "Mormon". Every young adult can agree, that just because your parents think something, doesn't mean you naturally think it too. Everybody comes to a point in their life where they have to decide what they believe for themselves. I'm thankful to my parents and to God that I was able to learn correct teachings about God and Jesus Christ from a young age. My parents also taught me, that it is important to have a solid foundation for what you believe in. I'm a Mormon because I study the Book of Mormon daily. I know that it is true, because I have applied its teachings in my life. I have prayed and asked if it is true, and I have received my answers from God, without a "middle man". I know the Book of Mormon is true, because I have applied it's teachings in my life, and seen the "fruits" in my life. I am a Mormon, because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's only church on the earth. Every church has some good things and some right things, but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only church that has all the true teachings of Jesus Christ completely restored. Its teachings are straight from the Savior, pure and undistorted. I know that this church is God's true church, because I have felt the Holy Ghost testify to me as I have lived according to the precepts taught. I'm a Mormon, because I know its what God wants me to do.

How I live my faith

I spend a lot of time doing service for people in my church, and in my community. Service is a big part of my beliefs, because that is what the Savior spent most of His time doing. That being said, I am always looking for a service project to do. I love helping neighbors shovel their driveways when it snows, dig holes for their trees and just general home improvement. I've spent time in automotive shops, so I like being able to use the skills I learned there to help people with their cars when they're having automotive difficulty. I also spend time serving in my church. One of my many jobs there is to help teach children between the ages of ten and eleven all about Jesus Christ, and what He has done for them. I love being able to spend time with them, because I love kids and they have very concise natural understandings of things. There is a lot to be learned from spending time with children. Another big part of how I live my faith is through constant self improvement. It is important to me to always be evaluating my actions, thoughts, and desires. Jesus Christ gave us the perfect example of who we should be. Through self evaluation, I am able to see what is keeping me from being like the Savior. I try to throw those things out of my life and out of my heart. This helps me to become more like Jesus Christ. I also live my faith by applying in my life what I learn from the scriptures, as well as what I learn from living apostles and prophets. In short I live my faith by trying to model my life after the Savior, Jesus Christ. I try to follow His teachings, including the teachings from His living apostles and prophets.

What is faith?

Wyatt Swicegood
To me, faith means trusting in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. We trust them that they will do what they have promised in regards to helping us and being there for us. We trust that they are real and that they will answer our prayers if we pray with real intent, and listen for their answer. Faith is the beginning of a life that is rich in blessings and happiness that come from acting. Faith is a principle of action. Once we believe in them, and trust that they can help, uplift and heal us we need to act on that belief by keeping the commandments of God. We can also act on our faith by striving to be more like God's son, Jesus Christ. As we strive to develope faith and act on the faith that we do have, we will be blessed with sincere and lasting happiness, as well as a desire to learn more and be better sons and daughters of God. What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Wyatt Swicegood
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is a big topic to dive into. The Savior's whole purpose was to perform "The Atonement", so it would be impossible to sum up what it means in a short answer. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is when the Savior suffered in the garden of Gethsemane, was crucified (where He suffered some more), and then was resurrected. Those three acts are what make up "the Atonement." There were a lot of reasons why Jesus Christ had to suffer for us. While suffering for us in the Garden of Gethsemane, He experienced everything everyone on this earth would experience. He felt our emotions, our physical pains and weaknesses, our spiritual hurt as well as any other thing that any one has ever felt and will ever feel. By so doing, He made it possible for us to be forgiven for our sins. Because He understands perfectly what we are going through, His judgements of our actions will be perfect and just, and He can comfort us in our times of need. We also can rely on Him for strength to be better people. Because of His suffering, He can forgive, and help us and show us what we need to do to be free from feelings of guilt and shame. He can show us how to live happier more spiritually satisfying lives. Because of the Atonement, we can change who we are, and become the people we always have wanted to be. The Atonement gives us hope that we can become perfect and live with God and Jesus Christ after this life. Show more Show less
