Hi I'm Karen

I am a wife, step-mom, daughter, sister, co-worker and friend to many. And ...I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I have been married for 17 years. I have an adult step son, but no children of my own. We live on 5.5 acres alongside a river, where it is like living in our own bit of paradise. We have an orchard and a large garden that keeps us quite busy during the summertime. My husband recently started a greenhouse business, which keeps us busy from mid winter to mid summer. I LOVE animals! We currently have 3 Springer Spaniels and one cat. They are like my children - but with these furry children, I don't have to worry about missing curfews or borrowing the car. They are the best greeting committee a girl could ask for when I get home from my long commute home from work. There's nothing like seeing their smiles and wagging tails to melt away the stress of work and the 1.5 hour commute home. I have many hobbies and interests. I love photography, music, reading, dancing, gardening and landscaping (of course!), baking, cooking, card making, jewelry making and working out at the gym. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time in the day to do everything I'd love to do. Sometimes this can be frustrating. But I don't let it get me down! My goal each day is to go out and make a difference in somebody's day!! It makes each day worthwhile!!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church. When I went through my divorce, I started questioning my faith and started making poor decisions. I left the church because I knew I wasn't living a life exemplary of the gospel. I truly was struggling. I spent several years going through the motions of life and feeling empty. It wasn't that I felt miserable, I just felt so lost and incomplete. I just wasn't happy. I realized, at that point, that I needed the Gospel of Jesus Chrust back in my life. I needed to feel close to my Heavenly Father again, to feel His peace, love and guidance. I wanted to be feel whole again. I was able to repent of my past mistakes and, through the power of prayer, my soul received that peace and healing that can only come from our Savior, Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. I have never regretted coming back to Church. Some people think that it would be hard to live the gospel and obey the commandments. I've been told that I am missing out on "life". But I've lived life without the Gospel and I wasn't happy at all. Now I am happy...my life is filled with so much joy. It doesn't mean my life is perfect. I have my troubles and trials just like everybody else. For example - I had complications from foot surgery this year and developed a large blood clot in my leg. Within a week from discovering the blood clot, the blood clot broke off and went into my upper right lung (pulmonary embollism). It was scary, yet at the same time...I had this strong sense and reassurance that everything was going to be okay. I know that it is my faith in my Savior, Jesus Christ, that has helped me through this time of my life. It is knowing that my Heavenly Father loves me and doesn't give me anything that I can't handle. I know that as long as I reach to Him for guidance and strength, He is there for me. It is also the love from my family and the love of my church family that gives me strength and support during life's tough times, as well as the good times.

How I live my faith

I love to serve in the church! I am currently playing the organ for the Sacrament Meeting services. I try to play with feeling and spirit so that others may feel my love for the members of the congregation, asl well as my love for my Heavenly Father, through the music. I also work with the Young Women's program. These are girls that are the ages 12-18 years old. What a wonderful opportunity I've been given, to not only teach them about how their Heavenly Father loves them, but to also to teach them lessons that will help prepare them for their future lives. Sometimes I think I learn more from them (their zeal for life, their conviction to live the gospel and stay true to the standards of the gospel) than they do from me. Each day that I wake up, is an opportunity to live my faith and be an example to those I come in contact with. I work in customer service and often hear more negative comments than I do positive ones. I strive each day to be an example of being positive and recognizing that each person I am speaking with is a child of God. I try to be patient and filled with love, like my Savior. I am not perfect and sometimes I fail. But I find that when I start my day out right, by praying to my Heavenly Father, I feel love and peace in my heart and it is so much easier to be patient, like Jesus. I know that reading the scriptures and saying my prayers is the key to being close to God. My day is so much better when I do! And when times are rough and I don't think I can handle what life is throwing at me that day, I pray and ask for His help to get me through it. And He does! It is like the weight of my world is lifted off my shoulders and I feel joy in my heart. I totally believe in the power of prayer!!

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

To get to know our Heavenly Father, you need to talk to Him. It is like when you get to know someone here on earth; the more you talk to each other, the more you learn of one another. But communication is a two way street - you can't just talk to Him, you have to listen too. Sometimes he will speak to you in a still, quiet thought or voice or sometimes the answers will come through somebody else (like sending someone when you have prayed for help). You also need to read about Him in the scriptures. The prohets have testified of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The scriptures tell us about the commandments and give us instructions for our life. The scriptures are like a modern-day self-improvement book; the more you read the scriptures - the better person you will be! I also testify that as you strive to live the commandments of our Heavenly Father, the more you will feel of His spirit. Show more Show less
