Hi I'm Katie

I am 19 years old, I am learning Hrvatski, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a total country girl at heart. I love spending time outside. Some things I like to do is cooking, drawing, sewing, riding horses, reading, learning, and making friends. I also participate in swim team, community plays, orchestra, and choir. One of my greatest joys is spending time with my large family. We ride bikes, go hiking, and if I am lucky - make home made ice cream! However, right now I am learning three languages to help prepare me to serve the people in Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia. I will then spend the next 18 months serving as a missionary of Jesus Christ. I hope to draw people closer to God and for their faith in Him to increase.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ. I love Him very much and I know He lives. I also have come to know, for myself whether the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints (Mormon) is true. In my early teenage years, I became desperate to find the truth. So, I asked Heavenly Father. I felt a peace, that was soothing and healing, and I knew that God lives. I knew that He loved me and that he would not leave His children without guidance in these later days. I also knew that we desperately need his help even in this modern age. And then I felt this joyful feeling and I just knew that the Church was true. I don't know how else to describe it, I just knew. I know that Jesus Christ lives, and I know that he loves us all very much. I also know that the Mormon church or The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints is true, because I asked Heavenly Father. And He answered.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest tasks someone can have in this life is to change their character to be like Christs. People who have come before us have left hints to how they grew to be like Christ. One of my greatest examples is mother Teresa. She said 'If you spend all your time judging others, you have no time left to love them.' I have also devoted the next 18 months of my life to serve as a missionary of Jesus Christ. This means that I will help others increase their faith in God and His son Jesus Christ.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Katie
Have you ever seen a desert that looks particularly yummy? Your stomach growls and suddenly that's all you can focus on. In your mind you're thinking "I bet that tastes awesome". Why is that? Have you tried that desert? What if the person that made it used salt instead of sugar? How can you know it is good unless you have tasted it? The truth is, you can't really. Many people can tell you its delicious but you can't really know until you try it. The same thing is true about a prophet on the earth today. It may be hard to understand or believe unless you have tried it. You may wonder how I can say the words I know that there is a prophet on the earth today and that God is still a very active part of this world. But I do know, and I came to know by "tasting the fruit" that follows Thomas S. Monson's words and actions. When I listen or read his words, I feel the same peace that I feel when reading the Bible and other scriptures. What he says always leads me to believe in Christ. And when I choose to do the things he encourages us to do, such as having an attitude of gratitude, I find true happiness. Show more Show less
