Hi I'm Julie

I am an Australian now living in Indiana. I enjoy learning new things, visiting new places and meeting new people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a farm on the Darling Downs in Queensland. I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while I was at university. I first came to the USA as a missionary for the church. I returned to Australia and worked for a number of years as a teacher and principal in schools in western Queensland. I have always enjoyed travelling and have been fortunate to visit many places in Australia, South East Asia, Europe and North America. After I was married I moved to Indiana. I am now a mother of 5 and keep busy with all their activities as well as volunteer work in the church and community. If you ask my kids what I enjoy most, they will tell you that I like to go places. Whether it be an afternoon picking apples in Michigan, a week-end in Chicago, a cross-country trip or getting on an aeroplane to travel across the world on a visit back home, my favorite times are when we are all together, enjoying each others company, learning new things and experiencing the wonderful world we live in.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church while at university in Toowoomba. What began as a mild curiosity about Mormons turned into a heartfelt search for truth as I studied the lessons the missionaries taught, read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know what I should do. It was not an easy decision to turn my back on an institution I had believed in all my life. Religion is not something you want to get wrong and 30 years later I know that I made the right decision. My life has been blessed with a peace that comes from knowing that you are living your life in a manner pleasing to your Heavenly Father. Learning about the Plan of Salvation was a key in my conversion. Knowing that our Father has a plan and that this life is just a part of that plan, gives meaning to so many things in the world that otherwise, just don't make sense. The more I have learned, the more I know how complete the gospel of Jesus Christ is. Our Father is an unchangeable God, a God of Miracles, a God who knows each of us intimately and a God who lets us use our agency to make decisions. Jesus Christ is our Savior and our Redeemer. He is the light and life of the world and it is through him that we can return to our Heavenly Father with our families. This knowledge gives me and my family a strong foundation of happiness and unity.

How I live my faith

Family and personal prayer, daily reading of the scriptures, attending church on Sundays and going to the temple are all outward ways I live my faith. Because I believe my body is a temple of God, I try to live a healthy lifestyle. Because I believe this world to be a gift from God, I try to respect it and do what I can to make it a better place. Because I believe our families are eternal units, I try to make sure we are happy and united and that there is love in our home. Service is an integral part of my faith and I have served many times as a teacher and leader in the church. Currently I serve in the Primary organisation for children ages 18 months to 12 years. I help teach, organise the teachers and plan activities for the children. My service in the church has led to my involvement in Boy Scouts of America where I volunteer as a trainer, training new scout leaders and also as a Day Camp Director.
