Hi I'm Rachel

I grew up in a small town, I like to run and swim, and I am attending college and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up in a small town I always wanted to get out, but now that I am I realized I didn't have it that bad there; I was able to participate in Varsity sports and be in Student Council. I like to run, swim, and cook, as well as watch movies and hang out with friends. I am now in college and love learning, especially studying Spanish and about other cultures. Meeting new people is always an adventure for me and is part of why I love being here so much. I also like to read and listen to music. Family is also very important to me and I don't know what I would do without my family and close friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but for the beginning part of my life I only went to church because my parents made me. When I was about 14 I went through some difficult hardships in my life and I felt very alone. In that point I realized I was missing something, a testimony. During this hard period of my life I began to pray with real intent and to read the scriptures and go to church not because someone was making me, but because I wanted to know if the Church was true. I asked questions, not because I wanted to find fault in the Church but because I wanted to better understand for myself why things happened. Through learning more about the Gospel and through feeling Heavenly Father's love I knew that this was the true Gospel. Since then I still have had hard times, but they have been a bit easier because I know that God and Jesus Christ love me. After feeling that love and gaining my own understanding I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is where I am supposed to be and it gives me strength to go on every day.

How I live my faith

To me service is a great way to show love and I try to do this everyday. I have participated in various community service projects such as highway clean-up, helping clean up a town after a tornado, and organizing a canned-food drive. Right now I am helping teach English to Spanish-speakers living in the United States. For the Church I have helped organize activities for my youth group when I was attending that and now I help plan activities for all the girls in my college ward which are about age 20. It is a lot of fun. Other ways I help people is by bringing food to them when they're sick or just being a friend to those around me. You never know when you can help somebody and I have often been helped by others as well.
