Hi I'm Ryan

I grew up in Utah. I am a teacher, horticulturist, and husband. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed gardening. I choose Utah State University as a place to receive my B.S. in Horticultural Science. I enjoyed working with plants for years until I discovered my second desire: teaching. I am now a teacher to young students. My joy in teaching is found in this phrase "You must be different from the world, to make a difference in the world." There is so much enjoyment when a student walks away knowing that "they have made a difference, by being who they are". I married my wife a little more than three years ago. We have known each other for much longer. Our story together can be summed up as "We married our best friend!"

Why I am a Mormon

Everybody faces the questions of "what is the purpose of this life?" or "Which, if any church is true?" I am Mormon, and I know the answers to those questions. My family is a Mormon family. I grew up knowing little about other religions. Growing up I was able to develop my own testimony that what my parents had told me was true. I will never forget my one week challenge. I was in college at Utah State University and I challenged myself to read the Book of Mormon in less than a week. I never had doubted that this book was true, but when I completed the entire book in one week, I knew without a doubt that the words that I had read were true. I knew that I needed to share the message that we have a Savior, who is at the head of the Church of Jesus Christ today, with the world. I was in the middle of a prayer, thanking my Father in Heaven for the Book of Mormon when the phone rang. It was my bishop, inviting me to a meeting with him (he didn't tell me why). That meeting was to ask me to "go on a mission". I have no doubt that he was inspired by the Lord to give me a call, it was not a coincidence that he had called right after my assurance of the truth of the Lords work on this Earth had been confirmed through prayer. Throughout my life I have experienced the feelings and promptings of the Holy Spirit that continue to help me feel at peace and guided. I am Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ lives and He loves me and He is leading me back to my heavenly home.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday, as a married couple, we get to teach the youth of our church. It is so amazing to see their own knowledge of their Savior, Jesus Christ increase. It is wonderful to read stories found in the Bible and the Book of Mormon about Christ's mission and his example to each of us. I love looking into the eyes of our students when they speak of their Lord, it is like an instant connection that bonds beyond ages.
