Hi I'm Melanie

I grew up in the United States. I am married with one child and I'm a nurse. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a cub scout leader and a nurse. I am married to a wonderful man and we have one very active son. I am a naturally curious person and I like learning about all kinds of things. I enjoy science, fine arts and camping.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ is a source of strength in my life. I know I have a loving Heavenly Father. I feel that love when I study the scriptures, attend church and attend the temple. I am never alone when times are hard. I have always believed the church is true and that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. My testimony has grown in strength over the years as I learn more and strive to live what I learn. I believe God wants us to be happy. Some people I've met don't understand why I live the way I do. They wonder why I don't drink alcohol or coffee or use tobacco. They wonder who in their right mind would spend three whole hours at church? They think this way of living is too restrictive and you couldn't possibly have any fun. I whole heartedly disagree. I do have fun, I love my family and I love God. Everything I have is from God, the way I show my gratitude and love for Him is through keeping the commandments. The commandments are God's way of keeping his children safe and happy. My life is not perfect, but I have been very blessed. I live this way because I am the happiest when I do.

How I live my faith

I am a cub scout leader in my ward. Mentoring the youth is one of the most challenging and rewarding callings. We usually meet every week and I help them pass off their acheivements, which are really life skills. I want these boys to grow to be strong, loving husbands and fathers and leaders in the community. Scouting is one of the best ways I know to do that. It's fun to see their excitement when learning new things.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women have all kinds of interests, dreams and personalities. Each woman is unique. I feel valued as a woman in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout my life, I have had leaders and friends in the church who have uplifted me, strengthened me and encouraged me to reach my potential. I have had many leadership opportunities serving in presidencies, teaching and speaking in church. My voice and oppinions are valued by my leaders. Men and women are equally important in the church. I know my husband values me and treats me with love and respect. He works hard and put me through college to become a nurse. Now, I am working so he can go back to school. He helps around the house and with our son. He tells me he wants to treat me well because someday he will have to answer to God for the things he says and does. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Pray, read the scriptures and keep the commandments. God really does listen to prayers. He doesn't always give me answers right away, but I feel peace when I pray. The scriptures (The Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price) contain the words of God for His children to learn. We read of His dealings with people throughout the ages of time. When we read the scriptures we can learn what God expects of us and of His great love for His children. There is one more thing that is special about reading the scriptures. Heavenly Father sends the Holy Spirit to dwell with us and bare witness of their truth when we do. It is a special feeling. I usually feel a warmth or burning in my chest when I read. It's amazing. Try it. Show more Show less
