Hi I'm Rob

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, father, and patent attorney. In my spare time I love to run, snowboard, read good books, and spend time with my family. l also love good music. I am a fan of jazz, 90's rock-and-roll, and funk (an odd combination, I know). My favorite movies are Airborne, Back to the Future (all 3), The Fugitive, Home Alone (both Chicago movies, my home town), and Catch Me If You Can.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that the teachings of the church set the foundation for a meaningful, purposeful, and happy life. I truly believe that if we keep God's commandments he will bless us and help us find true meaning and happiness in this life. I am glad that my parents helped me learn the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and I hope to be able to teach those same principles to my children. I also truly believe that God leads the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints through living prophets and apostles. I am grateful to have a source to which I can look to find truth in a world where it is easy to be lead down the wrong path.

How I live my faith

I teach the young men of our church group. They are some of the best guys you will ever meet. I was taught by great church leaders when I was growing up who helped me learn how to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a youth leader, I now appreciate even more the service that they provided. Teaching the young men and participating in scout campouts, sporting events, fund-raisers, and just talking with the guys helps keep me young. I also try to visit people with our missionaries when I have the chance. I really believe that the principles taught in our church can help anyone in any situation. Each person has the freedom to chose how they will act and what they will believe. When I visit people with the missionaries, I hope to find those people who are looking for help in their lives.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Rob
The Word of Wisdom is a commandment from God that helps us keep our bodies working properly. I think that this commandment is a good example of the principle that all of God's commandments are for our good, whether spiritually or physically. We are commanded to stay away from things that will harm our bodies, like tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and drugs. This commandment just makes sense to me: I don't ever want to find myself in a position in which I am addicted or dependent on a drink or habit to the point that it controls my life. What is being a Mormon like?

Rob
I love being a Mormon. The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have given a lot of meaning to my life. While I am not perfect, I know where I want to be as a person because of the teachings of the Church. I respect people who firmly believe and try to live their convictions, religious or otherwise. I have found that most people respect my decision to try to live the teachings of my church and some respect me more because of it. Show more Show less
