Hi I'm Athena

I'm a Missionary. I'm trying to learn Russian. I'm a Mormon! :)

About Me

I was raised by a single parent and brought up in the gospel. I love my family and don't know where I would be without them and their examples to me. I love to learn! Foreign Languages are my passion and I would love to be an international interpreter someday! I am a student working towards a bachelors in Deaf studies with an emphasis in interpreting. I love the deaf culture and am excited for my future career in working with the deaf. Some of my hobbies are hiking, quilting, cooking and photography! Photography is another one of my passions! I love landscape photography and specifically black & white film photography. I love working in the dark room and seeing images appear on a blank sheet of paper by the use of light! It is so neat to know that by adding a little bit of light you can change something drastically. :) I recently have been called to serve in the Russia St. Petersbury LDS mission! I report to the MTC (mission training center) on April 25th, 2012. I will serve the Lord as a full-time missionary preaching and teaching his gospel in the Russian langauge (which I do not yet speak) for the period of 18 months!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the gospel and was baptized when I was 8 years old. However I wasn't truely converted to the gospel until about 4 years ago. Nothing miraculous happened to me to become converted or to test my faith. I just simply asked myself what it was that I believed in. This is when I realized that my testimony was so much stronger than I had ever imagined. I know in my heart, mind and spirit that this church is true. I know that God is my Loving Heavenly Father. That Joseph Smith had a vision where he saw God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. And that he restored the gospel to what it is today. I know that my Savior Jesus Christ died for me. He bled from every pore and suffered for my sins so that I might become clean through him and return to the presence of my Father in Heaven. I know that we have a prophet here on earth today that guides and leads our church today. I know that temples are a house of our Heavely Father and that as we go to the temple and preform those sacred covenants we become closer to his presence and to those who have passed on before us. I know that I am a child of God and that he knows me by name. I also know that he knows and loves everyone on earth and wants all of us to do what we need to, to be able to return to him someday. I love this Gospel and I feel of my Saviors love daily. This is why I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I live about 3 blocks from a temple. My town is small and there is no other building that rises as high as the temple. This is a great blessing because no matter where you are in the town you can look outside and see the house of the Lord. I use to take this for granted but now I attend the temple once a week at least. The temple is a place that I can feel closest to my Heavenly Father and I am so grateful for his presence there. I love to serve others. My favorite service project that I do is quilting. I love to make quilts for a place called the Dove center. This is a place where women and children that are victims of domestic violence can go for safety and comfort. I was raised by a single parent and know that a simple blanket can offer that warmth and comfort that is often needed when you are a young child. I believe that when we are in the service of our fellow beings we are only in the service of our God. I am now living as a missionary in Russia. I left my family, friends, work, school, and other activites that I love to serve the Lord by teaching the people in Russia about his restored Gospel. The reason I chose to do this is so that I can share the joy and happiness that I get from knowing about the true and everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone that I meet.
