Hi I'm Janelle

I'm a wife and mother of 5. I enjoy reading, running, cooking, and spending time with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My dad spent many years as a coach and referee and I think his passion for sports found it's way into my heart. I was a member of a 3-time state championship basketball team. I was also a runner-up in a state track meet and still hold a record at my high school. Those activities taught me many lessons about working hard, sacrifice and taking care of my body. I still try to keep in shape by training for and running in several races a year. I graduated from college with a degree in Spanish. I met my husband during that time and we have been married for 11 years. We have 5 children and love the chaos that comes with them...most of the time. I am happy to be a stay-at-home mom. It is important to me to make our home a refuge for my family. That helps put the monotony of cleaning, cooking, budgeting, teaching, and organizing in perspective. I love to collect and read cookbooks.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up going to church with my family every Sunday. I learned early on that I could pray for direction, strength and comfort. I learned that my Heavenly Father knows and loves me. That knowledge kept me away from alcohol and drugs and helped me to seek out good friends. I learned early on that the Book of Mormon is a true book translated by Joseph Smith, a true prophet of God. As I've gotten older, my understanding and appreciation has grown. I have realized how much I need my Savior. I have the desire to follow Christ and obey my Heavenly Father's commandments, however I make mistakes daily. I am so grateful for the Atonement of my Savior. It allows me to repent and be forgiven and gives me hope to keep trying. Since Christ took upon Him all the world's sins and infirmities, I know that there is someone who knows exactly what I am going through and exactly how I feel. I can turn to my Heavenly Father in prayer and through the Holy Ghost, I can receive comfort and answers very specific to my situation. I am a Mormon because I believe in God's Plan of Salvation. I know that I am one of His spirit daughters. I know that my children are His children and I have been entrusted with their care and learning. This gives me so much of a better perspective as I struggle to know what to teach them and how to raise them. I know that through prayer, I can receive inspiration from my Heavenly Father. He knows my childrens' potential and how I can help them acheive it. I know that I will be able to live with my husband after we die. My efforts to keep our marriage strong and healthy are greater because of this knowledge. I am grateful that we have a prophet today who speaks for the Lord. I cannot imagine trying to navigate through life without the truths that the gospel of Jesus Christ offer.

How I live my faith

I help teach the 14-16 year old girls in church on Sundays. I also help them plan and carry out activities during the week. I am trying to teach them leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. I help them work on projects that strengthen their faith, help them understand how important and unique they are and how to live a chaste and virtuous life. I make meals and babysit for friends when they are sick or in need. I share inspired and uplifting messages from the leaders of our church with other women every month. It is a great way to lift each other up! I attend a weekly scripture class to increase my knowledge of the words of God. I don't find a lot of time to study and ponder on my own and so I appreciate the opportunity every week to leave the world for a little bit and study the words of God's chosen prophets.
