Hi I'm Jess

I'm a student, a sister, a daughter, and and avid bibliophile. I speak Chinese and hope to be a graduate someday. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 23 year old college student studying to be a high school English teacher. I have awesome roommates who encourage me to be the best I can and a wonderful family who is there for me through everything. I know I can count on them for a laugh or a hug or a 45 minute drive for emotional support and migraine medicine. I believe in the power of writing happy things. I believe in living to serve others. I believe fruits, vegetables, and lacing up the running shoes can make any day better. I believe in a Father in Heaven who is much more involved in our happiness than we are usually. And I believe in being kind.

Why I am a Mormon

There is nothing in the world that has brought me more peace and direction than The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know that through Joseph Smith, the Resurrected Lord restored His own gospel and that through it I can know the way to be happy in this life and how to find eternal life after this one is over. I haven't always been the first one to accept the changes I need to, but over time and after making enough mistakes, I've come to know that whenever I follow His counsel and try to live my life in harmony with His teachings, I know who I am and I feel happy. I also know that whenever I let any of that go, I start to wonder why life seems so hard. Only after I repent (or come unto Christ) do I feel better. I know that God has given us priesthood authority so that we can take advantage of Christ's Atonement through baptism and be led in our daily challenges. I know that through The Bible and The Book of Mormon God has talked to me and I've been able to counsel with Him. He'll talk to you too if you let Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to do what Christ would do if He were here. I'm still learning, but I've found that getting near to God through prayer and scriptures help me know what it is I should do. I am currently employed as a teacher for people in the process of learning how to share what they know. I learn from them daily. And every Sunday, I meet with others to study and learn about life together.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Jess
The Book of Mormon is kind of like the Bible, but instead of being written in ancient Jerusalem, was written in ancient America. It's full of experiences had by people called prophets, or God's chosen representatives, and helps us in our daily lives realize and re-realize our position to God as His children and what we can do to be happy now and in the future. It's really awesome. The Bible and Book of Mormon support each other, so if you ever run into things not fully fleshed out in one, you'll find it in the other. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Jess
Heck yes! Why would God leave us alone now just because our problems are different than needing to split the Red Sea? He loves us and wants to guide us just as much as he wanted to guide the Israelites. As time goes on, people keep having problems, so God keeps giving us answers, which is why the Bible is made up of a continuous chronoligical sequence of books. Adam wasn't given the New Testament simply because it hadn't happened yet! God has kept talking to us, but only when we're willing to ask. The only reason I can say I know God has sent us a prophet today and it's Thomas S. Monson is because I have prayed about it and felt a witness in the form of overwhelming peace, or the Holy Ghost. You can too! Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Jess
A modern day prophet asked God a question about what we should and shouldn't put into our bodies. He told us that if we would abstain from tobacco, coffee, tea, illegal drugs, alcohol, and eating too much meat God would give us a healthy body and more wisdom :) Hence, the Word of Wisdom. Are Mormons Christians?

Jess
YES!!! We believe Jesus is the Son of God and our Savior. We strive to live in harmony with His teachings and pray in his name. We want to know Him better. We want to live like He did. We want others to come to know Him through us. We read His words and He leads this church. If that's not Christian I don't know what is! Show more Show less
