Hi I'm Sherry

I am mother, a college professor, a national champion public speaker, a published communication researcher, and a Mormon.

About Me

First and foremost, I am a mother. While this is a full-time (and beyond) job I am also blessed to carry out a full-time career as a college professor. My background is in speech and debate, where I won several national titles. I am published communication researcher in the areas of health and political communication. While helping people conquer their public speaking fears is something I love to do on a daily basis, my greatest fulfillment comes when I spend time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was raised in the mormon church, I have taken a critical approach to my own investigation and testimony of the church and its teachings. I am a mormon because there is no better way to live and raise a family that brings such joy and happiness. I've heard people criticize the church for the supposed diminished role that it gives to women; however, as an accomplished woman I have found the church to encourage me to reach my full potential and provide me opportunities for growth. The person that I am today is because of the gospel standards and teachings. The gospel brings me closer to Christ.

How I live my faith

Everyday I go to work and face college students that are struggling to find their identity. As I teach my classes, I try to intertwine faith with logic. While academics would argue if these to principles go together, I see the hope and gift of the future that faith brings to my students, regardless of religious affiliation.
