Hi I'm Claire

I love the outdoors and I want to travel the world. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm pretty much as average as it gets. I go to BYU. I want to study everything but don't want to study. That's my biggest strength and my biggest weakness. I love everything and want to try everything but can't sit still long enough to get good at anything. So I play the guitar and the piano. I like to bake (or rather, eat what I bake). I like to run, hike, rock climb. I love to learn and I wish I liked to read. I speak Spanish and hope to learn all sorts of languages. I enjoy coloring with crayons and eating fruit snacks. I sound really cool in words, but like I said, I'm not good at any of those things, I just like them :) I'm a 19 year old from Colorado and I'm a Mormon!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both Latter Day Saints and raised me well in the "Mormon Life." I always loved going to church and seeing my friends and talking about Jesus and all those things that made me just feel good. I've never known anything else and sometimes I wonder if it's a life I would have chosen or if it's simply what I was handed. But I had experiences at a very young age that taught me that God was really real and He knew me. I have never doubted that. I know with all my heart that this is the plan He has for me and that the church to which I belong is His. My family and I have had our share of challenges and setbacks but I can attest that the hardest times I've ever experienced were not when I lost my little brother, or lost my house, or lost relationships with my closest friends. They weren't when I failed tests or felt lonely or had kidney stones. These things are hard and they're part of life. But great circumstances are worse than all things things when I'm not close to my Savior. With Him I can do all things, without Him I might as well be dirt. That's why I'm a Mormon. Because my Father in Heaven has told me that it's right by giving me immense happiness and love when I think about Him and follow the commandments and example He gave me through His Son!

How I live my faith

In a few weeks I am leaving my family, my friends, my school and everything except two 50 lb suitcases and moving to Bolivia to serve and teach people about what I believe. I believe the best way to show my faith is by serving and I've done that in different ways throughout my life, all of which have helped me prepare for this unbelievable sacrifice of my life for God. I worked a lot in high school with students with special needs and came to love them more than anyone! I volunteered here and there with the elderly and learned how much knowledge and wisdom can be packed into one wrinkly head. I served in various volunteer positions within the church, directing music, teaching classes, visiting church members who need some extra love, being a camp counselor, planning activities, serving in leadership positions and all sorts of little things here and there. I love being able to serve and I am so thankful for the opportunity I have to devote 18 months of my young adult life to put to use the experience I have and serve God and his children in Bolivia!
