Hi I'm Sierra

I was born and raised in Utah, I am a college student, a returned missionary, and I am a Mormon!

About Me

I am a working college student studying to become a teacher. I absolutely love languages! I learned Portuguese while serving as a missionary, and am now studying Spanish. I work with kids after school everyday and absolutely love spending my time with them. I am a newly wed. :) We've been married for less than a year now, and I love it! I love spending my days with the person who makes me the happiest. He really is my best friend. I love new adventures and learning new things. I love running and swimming. I'm learning to snowboard, and mountain bike. One day I will run a half marathon!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my whole life. My parents brought me up in the church. I grew up in a predominantly LDS area. Which might give the idea that it would be easier to be a Latter Day Saint. But I think that it is just as hard, if not harder to hold my standards high. There has always been a lot more gray area in what is right and wrong. All around me I have seen others who I know are mormon and are not following the teachings of the gospel. I would have been easy for me growing up to just be like them. But I was blessed with a strong testimony. I can't point out a single moment where I knew the gospel to be true, I've always known. There've been small and simple moments in my life that have manifested the truth of this gospel. Simple things like fathers blessings, and answered prayers. Things like scripture study, the miracle of finding a job when I needed it. Receiving guidance in my life, recalling an answer on a test from what I had studied. And especially from receiving comfort when I've needed it. I know this church is true, I know it with all my heart. I've always known it to be the truth. I know that Jesus Christ lives, and that He performed the atonement so that I could become clean and pure through repentance. My Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know me, and when I pray to Them, They hear my prayers, and answer them. I know that callings in the Church are called of God. And that we are put into different circumstances to help ourselves grow, and to help others grow. I know that if we put our trust in the Lord, He will guide us down the path that we most need to travel. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that President Monson is a living prophet today. I know that this Church is true. I love it with all my heart. I know that when I follow the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ I am happy. I know these things to be true, and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Growing up in the church, I have had the opportunity to be a member of the young women program in my ward. I think that this program has helped me the most as I have grown up. I was surrounded by other righteous young women. I was easy to become friends with them and to love them and have fun with them. I know that callings in the church are inspired of God and that they will help you to grow and learn, and to become what God wants you to become.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Sierra
We are taught that everyone is given the opportunity to receive knowledge of our gospel. Those who die before they have the opportunity to are given that opportunity in the spirit life. But Baptism is an ordinance that can only be done while on this earth. So to give those spirits the opportunity to be baptized we do what is called baptisms for the dead. We act as a proxy for others to receive the ordinance of baptism. Show more Show less
