Do you want to chat with a missionary?

We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi I'm Olivia Huish

I am currently a missionary in the Dominican Republic. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Mesa, Arizona and after I graduated High School I moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue an art career. I really really love to sketch and doodle and paint anytime I have a spare minute. I also love to run. I ran in my high school cross country team and I also ran the Catalina Trail Marathon in spring of 2011. Drawing, Singing, and running all relieve stress for me... but, my favorite thing to do is travel. I'm kind of adventure obsessed. I have been fortunate to go to many places across the world but want to continue to go to new places and backpack across the world some day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I am so grateful for all of the joy the church has brought me. I am a member because I know this gospel is true with all of my heart. I know that Christ atoned for our sins and suffered for us individually because he loves us. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God because I have prayed for myself to know. I also know that a wicked man would have never endured all of that pain for a Book he knew was not true. When I read the Book Of Mormon I can feel Heavenly Father's love for me, and he speaks to each of us through those words. Whenever I am struggling I can feel God's love and when I read the scriptures my answers to prayers are found. The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints is filled with loving and righteous people. I love the unity and friendships the Church has brought me. The Church also has the morals and beliefs that bring happiness and productiveness and fulfillment, and I know that God wants us to be these things.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith mainly by just being an example. When I went away to college I made many friends who, over time, saw something different in me and asked about my church. I think it's also super important to be happy and show how much joy the gospel brings into my life, because if I'm not happy why would someone want to be part of a church that seems to make me miserable? I live my faith by trying my best to be honest and kind, and an example of Jesus Christ every day. I am currently living my faith by sharing the gospel with the people of the Dominican Republic in Santo Domingo.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Olivia Huish
This life is a time for us to become like God. In order to become like our Heavenly Father, we need trials and sorrow as well as happiness. We need to experience hard times so that we know how to overcome those times, and strengthen our testimonies. We gained bodies in this life so that we can feel pain and happiness and have the ability to choose right from wrong. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to choose our actions and choose how we want our lives to be. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Olivia Huish
We are sometimes referred to as mormons because we believe in The Book of Mormon, but our focus is on Jesus Christ. We are the church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day saints. Mormon is one of the many prophets in the Book of Mormon, but his message is also centered on Christ. We are Christians, we are nick-named mormons, and we are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Olivia Huish
AMAZING. Obviously, we go through the same difficulties and challanges everyone goes through, but I am able to endure with peace and happiness because I know I have a loving Savior and Heavenly Father, I know who I am, where I come from, and where I can eventually go. Peace is probably the biggest thing this church brings me, and I'm sure every other member would agree. Show more Show less
