Hi I'm Eliza

I'm a college student, a musician, an athlete, and a Mormon.

About Me

I am the second of seven children and I have a twin sister. I have always been athletic, and some of my favorite sports to play are softball, tennis and swim. I started playing the piano over ten years ago and worked throughout high school as a private teacher. One of my favorite things to do back home was go to the lake, even though my wakeboarding skills are barely satisfactory. And in my opinion, there's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book. However, I find I have less time to do the things I love because school keeps me so busy. I'm pre-nursing right now and hope to get into the program next spring. But when I'm not holed up in the library, I like spending time with my roommates and catching up with my family and friends back home.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon, and it used to be that I went to church just because my parents did. But I can’t say that anymore. I am a Mormon because I want to be. Leaving for college really made me step back and re-evaluate my commitment to the Church. Life on your own is hard. I don’t think there is a single person, not just those away from home, who hasn’t felt lonely or forgotten at some point. Thank goodness for the Gospel. The Church is so great because no matter where in the world you go, it's always there. At home I had an amazing support system through the Church, and I knew that even when I moved away I could find the same love and strength. But even better than the friends I have made through the Church is the relationship I have created with God. Whenever I feel like nobody knows who I really am, or wonder if anybody even cares, I remember my Heavenly Father. I have a strong, personal connection with Him that helps me through any tough times I face. I know that He hears every word I speak to Him, and that He knows everything going on in my life. It is such a comfort to remember that even when I feel completely alone and when nobody seems to understand, God is only one prayer away.

How I live my faith

I am a Sunday School teacher in my ward. This means that every other Sunday, I get to team-teach a group of twenty-ish of my peers. I was really intimidated at first, but I love it now. It's a great opportunity for me to learn more about the Gospel and to share my testimony with others. In the Church, the women have great opportunities to keep an eye out for each other through services like Visiting Teaching. Basically, every month my roommate and I visit with two other girls to make sure everything is going all right in their lives and to share a brief message about the Gospel. This is a great way to make sure that everyone is taken care of and has everything they need. Outside of official church service, I live my faith by living my testimony. I try to make all my actions consistent with what I have been taught in the Church. I hope that through my example I can share the Gospel with others and help them find the joy that fills my life.
