Hi I'm Lynn Blake

I'm a research scientist, a husband, a father/grandfather/great-grandfather, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised on a small farm. Although my father did not graduate from high school, his encouragement and support assisted me to receive an engineering degree and finally a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. This launched my professional career. During this time, I married and started a family. My wife and I have seven children, 32 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. As you might imagine, our family is very important to us. We gain great joy and satisfaction from each of them. My father always said, "There are two types of people in the world, the givers and the takers. Prepare yourself and be a giver, not a taker." I have strived to so live in the community, the Church, our family and in my profession. The primary reason I sought to be a research scientist was to identify and develop projects, organizations and systems that would benefit man and society. I have been given this opportunity in the space program, in medical research and administration, in economic development and in the computer video communications. Service in The Church of Jesus Christ and following the Savior's teachings have also provided very important opportunities for service and charity. I have strived to do this throughout the world as opportunities were given.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was eight years old, I did not read the Book of Mormon until I was 18 years old and serving in the Air Force. I used the Scientific Method to know the truth of this Second Witness of Christ. I have studied the Bible and have received a strong witness of Jesus Christ through His example, teachings, commandments and covenants with me. Knowing that He organized His Church upon the earth, I have sought to be associated with His Church in my life. I have therefore strived to live His teachings and covenants as clarified by modern day prophets and witnessed through the Holy Ghost in my personal life. This was the pattern testified by the Savior: "The former treatise have I made, (Luke and the Book of Luke) of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after that He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:" (Acts 1:1-2) We can then know these commandments are true by the Holy Ghost (John 14: 26). The Savior followed this pattern throughout the period recorded in the New Testament as well as today: speaking through His prophets who then teach the people the words of the Savior. When the apostles were taken from the earth, this communication with God was also taken from the earth and men were left to reason and act on their own. During this period there were many "good" men who strived to do "good" things; however, as was prophesied by the apostles in the New Testament period, "grievous wolves did enter among the flock destroying many of the teachings of the Savior".Upon following this pattern outlined by the Savior in His day, I came to know that He did return and establish His kingdom through the Book of Mormon and modern day apostles and prophets. I am now grateful that I can be part of His Kingdom.

How I live my faith

Through the knowledge I have gained of the teachings of the Savior both today and in His time, I have come to know that we must live His commandments and covenants. His teachings have been clarified through the "New Witness for Christ" found in the Book of Mormon and the additional revelations given in this dispensation recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants. Again I have found these to be His words through the Scientific Method I have used throughout my life as a research scientist. These teachings have resulted in my striving to incorporated these teachings and commandments into my daily life. As well, I have attempted to strengthen and bless others though helping them to better understand and incorporate them into their lives. I have felt the peace and comfort that comes through obedience to the Savior. This has included opportunities to teach and lead my family and others throughout my life including the commitment of the last 11 years of my life to provide full-time service to all people I have met both within the USA and in other parts of the world. I feel that one of the greatest doctrines taught by the Savior is the clarification of the role and opportunity of eternal families. He gave His apostles the power to "bind on earth and it shall be bound in heaven" (Matt 16:19; Matt 18:18). This same "binding" power has been restored by Elijah the prophet in these latter days (D&C 110: 13-16). I strive to live the teachings of Jesus Christ and be worthy of the covenants I have made so that I can live with my family not only in this life but throughout all eternity. I am grateful I have come to know these teachings are indeed His teachings and to recognize the strength He gives each of us as we strive to live them. The other primary blessing I feel is to assist others to understand these teachings and to live them in their lives.
