Hi I'm Jackson

I'm a fresh high school graduate, I love to learn, I can play air guitar by ear, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a recent high school graduate from Arizona. Not everyone likes school, but I think it's pretty great. I love to learn and understand new things—from integrating polar functions, to appreciating Russian literature, to vector graphic design and typography. I've been working as a math tutor since my junior year in high school, and love helping other kids make sense of it. But I'm not a total mathlete: I also like music, theater, literature, and art in general (although I'm not particularly talented at any of the above). Right now I'm serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Why I am a Mormon

Initially I joined the Church because my (wonderful) parents told me to. But anyone who has been raised as a Mormon knows that simply growing up as a member of the Church is not a good enough reason to stick around long. I went along with the program somewhat halfheartedly for years until, like the prophet Alma in the Book of Mormon, "God sent his holy angel to stop [me] by the way...yea, I did remember all my sins and iniquities...and I saw that I had rebelled against my God, and that I had not kept his holy commandments." In short, I realized that I wasn't living the teachings of Christ as fully as I should be, and that I could be so much happier if I did. Growing up with the gospel of Christ in my life, I knew that I could (and needed to) turn to Him and His Atonement to be changed. I came to know undeniably that Christ is real, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is His church. "Now, behold, I say unto you, if I had not been born of God I should not have known these things; but God has, by the mouth of his holy angel, made these things known unto me, not of any worthiness of myself." There is only way that a fullness of joy or happiness can be achieved: through the gospel, the good news of Christ, His Atonement, and of our Father in Heaven's wonderful plan for all of us both collectively and individually. Nothing could be happier!

How I live my faith

I'm far from perfect, but I try to follow Christ's teachings and the teachings of His prophets as best I can, and to be a good example and influence for others. I've served in the past as a leader in some of our Young Men organizations, been a secretary, and visit families as a part of the home teaching program. I also love to go to our temples, where we can do work to benefit our ancestors and strengthen our families. I'm getting ready to serve a mission in Belgium and the Netherlands, where I'll have the wonderful opportunity to reach out to the Dutch people, to serve them however I can, and to teach them about the Gospel that's made such a difference in my life.
