Hi I'm Jared
I've been in Arizona most of my life, but I spent growing up years in Las Vegas, Boise, and Denver before returning here. I met my wife in High School and we were friends throughout. I served a Mormon mission in Michigan before returning and get married. I love to read and am currently enjoying reading some of the religious works of C.S. Lewis. I also like to assemble personal computers and enjoy troubleshooting them. I like to maintain my physical fitness by lifting weights. I have completed degrees in Engineering and currently work consult in the water / waste water field. I have a daughter and three sons who can be quite a handful sometimes, but I love spending time with my family and love to take my family on vacation to California as often as I can.
Why I am a Mormon
The simplest answer is to say that I was born a Mormon. My parents are both Mormon, my grandparents were all Mormon and even my great grandparents were all Mormon. That seems like I just fell into it, but really it is more complicated than that. When it came time for me to decide for myself what I wanted to believe and how I wanted to raise my family, I had to ask the question for myself: "Do I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true and living church of God on earth?" As I thought about this, I realized that the question could really be distilled down to another question: "Is the Book of Mormon the word of God?" After I had read through it more than once I asked that question for myself. The truth of God's word in the Book or Mormon was made manifest to me and I knew I had my answer. This witness has been confirmed to me many times since then. Fortunately, I was able to find a young woman who shared these beliefs and we want to raise our children to be respectful upstanding citizens in our community as we were both raised. We also want to protect them from the evil influences that seem so prevalent in the world today. These objectives are easier to do when we follow the direction of the Lord that can only be found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
How does making right choices help us make more right choices?
Just as addictive behaviors put the addict on a downward spiral that often results in devastating consequences, making right choices puts us on an upward spiral that can help one progress toward one day returning to live with our Father in Heaven. Every righteous decision makes the next decision easier to make. Instead of having to create more lies in order to cover up previous lies as we are honest with ourselves and those we interact with we are able to remain free from the bonds of dishonesty and deceit.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by serving in whatever way the Lord asks me to. I have served in many ways as an adult. I have served among the youth of the Church to provide them with guidance and direction. I have served in a leadership capacity in a local congregation. I currently serve as a leader among one of the men's organizations to help organize and direct their efforts. I visit families in our local congregation to provide them with help in whatever ways I can. I also have many opportunities to administer to the sick and visit the widows in our congregation. My daughter enjoys spending time with the youth in our congregation and my oldest son loves his involvement in the Cub Scout pack that is organized by our congregation. I also live my faith by trying to make sure that I read scriptures and pray to my Heavenly Father in the name of Christ each day by myself, with my wife, and with my family. We try to eat dinner together each night. We try to reserve a night each week where we spend time together as a family. All of these help me strengthen my relationship with my Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ and with my family.
