Hi I'm Leighton (Mac)

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in El Paso, Texas. It was there that I was introduced to the Mormon faith.

About Me

I have been married to a wonderful woman for the past 37+ years and we are the proud parents of 7 children and grandparents of 17 grandchildren. They have brought us great joy. Personally, I enjoy playing racquetball, solving sudoku puzzles, and playing games with my family. I studied Physics at BYU and received a PhD degree in that field. I love to teach or tutor our children, grandchildren and friends about science and math. For a number of years I was involved with Boy Scouts in one capacity or another. It was especially fun going on camping trips with my family, but at this time in my life, I enjoy taking 'field trips' with my wife and staying at resorts instead of campgrounds.

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to the mormon faith when I was about 10 years old. Prior to that time in my life, I had no religious affiliation or religious beliefs. As the teachings and tenets of the gospel were explained and taught to me, I felt in my heart that the teachings were true. Those tender feelings have never left me. I served a mission for the Church in Germany. It was a choice experience to serve others and to testify of our Savior. I believe this mortal life was designed to fulfil serveral divine purposes. I believe one such purpose is to prove to ourselves whether we choose, (of our own will), to live a life in accordance with God's will or not. That means that I choose to love and serve our Father in Heaven and His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. It means that I try to love and serve my 'neighbor' as the Savior does. In essence, it means to me that I learn through life's experiences how to become like my Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. I believe because of restored truths that I may be able to live with my family as a family unit after this mortal life. The Church and its organizations have helped me to raise a Christian family. My affiliation and membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (mormons), is very dear and personal to me. I believe the teachings of the Church are true, that Jesus Christ is at the head of this Church and that we enjoy the presence of living prophets who teach and warn us of problems in our day just as prophets in the Bible did in their day. I testify that eternal truths were restored at this time through the prophet Joseph Smith, and that in addition to the Bible, The Book of Mormon contains the Word of God.

How I live my faith

Since our Church has no paid clergy, as member of the Church we serve as volunteers. One of my choice assignments in the Church is to visit and serve other members in our congregation. This has given me many opportunities to serve others, and these activities have always brought joy to in my life. Many times in the past I have had the priviledge of taking one of my sons on these assignments and they have also felt the same joy in serving others.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Leighton (Mac)
As a scientist, I see order in the Universe. I see the universe created by a 'Divine Designer'. This world in which we live was not created by randomness, nor by a product of probabilities. There is order and purpose in this world in which we live. I realize many things in this world are not well understood, yet this lack of understanding or knowledge is no excuse or logic basis for denying the existance of God. Show more Show less
