Hi I'm Rich

I'm a native Southerner. I love college football and the Atlanta Braves. I'm and doctor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Georgia and now I'm happy to be back. I went out of state to BYU for college and served a two-year church mission to Kiev, Ukraine. I graduated form medical school and residency training in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia. After that, I served in the US Army for four years, including six months in Baghdad, Iraq. After the Army, I took a job at a hospital close to home. My family is very important to me. I am a husband of seventeen years and my wife and I have six children, five boys and one girl. I enjoy working outside, gardening and taking care of my lawn. Right now I'm building (and rebuilding) a playground for my kids.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up going to church with my parents. When I was fourteen, I began to realize that being a Mormon wasn't easy and if I was going to do it I wanted to find out for myself whether the things I had been taught were true. I decided to read the Book of Mormon for myself to find out whether it was really from God. I read the whole book and then asked God in prayer if the Book of Mormon was true. I got no answer, which surprised me. As I sat there considering the last of an answer, I thought about the the things I had learned about Christ, about the way I had felt as I read the Book of Mormon. I then felt a warm feeling deep in my chest and felt a thought in my mind that I had already had my prayer answered many times as I read the Book of Mormon. It's really as simple as that. If the Book of Mormon is from God, then Joseph Smith was God's prophet. If that's true, then the church he established must be the true church of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I spent two-years in Kiev, Ukraine teaching people about Jesus Christ and our church. More recently, I am serving as the leader of the adult men's group. We work to make sure that the needs of our local congregation get visited regularly and their needs are being met. Our church is about serving others. I had the chance to help with the tornado cleanup in Alabama this past summer with our church group and my oldest son. I also helped in service efforts after flooding in Austell, GA, after hurricane Katrina in Mississippi.
