Hi I'm Janet

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of six children, four of which are teenagers, and I LOVE it. My husband and I love to scuba dive and for me, the best dives are shark dives. I like to quilt, digital scrapbook, fold laundry, coupon shop with my sister, and read. I am currently taking my first ever college class with my oldest son and loving it. I have a pot-bellied pet pig named Frank who I adore.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in an LDS home and was baptized at age 8. The summer I turned 12 I completed my first ever personal reading of the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. I shared a room with my 4 younger sisters and the afternoon I finished reading this book of scripture I found myself all alone in my room. I knelt down and prayed to Heavenly Father to know if this book which I believed to be sacred was indeed true. As I did so, into my entire being flowed a very warm and tingling feeling which started at the top of my head and continued throughout all my extremities. I recognized that powerful feeling as the Holy Ghost bearing truth to my soul of the question I asked in prayer. That testimony I received from God that day in prayer has strengthened me in numerous ways. I know God hears and answers my prayers. Because He answers my prayers I know I am loved by Him and important to Him, that He is very much aware of me and my life. Knowing He feels that way about me, gives me understanding about how He feels towards all of His children; about how I should feel towards others. I know the Book of Mormon is a true book and will lead me to Jesus Christ. Applying the principles found in the Book of Mormon will help me become like Him. Joseph Smith is the prophet of the Restoration of Christ's true Gospel again on the earth. There are modern day prophets on the earth today. They are men called of God to be special witnesses of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Their counsel strengthens me in my desire to be like Him. My testimony of the truth of these things is what gives guidance and direction to my life. It is my most prized possession, something no one can ever take from me.

How I live my faith

My greatest calling in life is that of being a wife and a mother. It is within the walls of my own home where I am performing my greatest work. My husband and I work together to raise happy, well-rounded, well-adjusted, hard working, and respectful children. Teaching them the nature of who they are - children of a Heavenly Father who loves them - and what their duty to Him is - serving others - is my primary goal as a mother. Daily, we read from the scriptures and hold family prayer together. Weekly, we gather as a family for a family night, called Family Home Evening, where we sing hymns, pray, have Gospel discussions, play games, and plan the weekly calendar. We strive to have family dinner each night. These family activities strengthen our family relationships and draw us closer to the Lord, Jesus Christ. One of the things I love about being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is that in the church we serve others, without any monetary gain. I have had cherished opportunities to work in organizations of the church with all ages. One of my favorite callings of church service was to teach hymns and songs to the Primary children, ages 3-11. Sacred and uplifting music has always been a source of peace and comfort in my life, and to share that passion with children has been very rewarding to me. I served as the president of an organization that instructs young women from ages 12-18. I was able to help teach leadership skills to girls and work with them as we planned activities that would prepare them for their future. Currently, I am serving in the Relief Society, an organization for women of all ages. I meet and spend time with the 150 women in my ward. What a blessing it is in my life to associate with women who are dealing with a myriad of life's challenges while demonstrating faith in Jesus Christ and trust in a loving and merciful Heavenly Father.
