Hi I'm Andrea

I love to learn, be creative and enjoy this beautiful world. I am the mother to 8 awesome children and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay-at-home mother of eight children ranging in age from 1 to 24 years and, needless to say, we have have a busy family. I speak English and French and studied Russian in university. I love to cook and bake but only know how to do so in mass quantities (all those hungry mouths!). Having a creative outlet is essential for me to keep my bucket full and I enjoy sewing, digital graphics and crafts of all kinds. Learning new things every day makes me happy. My favorite books are non-fiction and I frequently have huge stacks of books on a variety of subjects checked out from the library. I love trees and the beauty of the world. I find great joy living next to a forest where I can see the birds and wild life, and the trees changing in their season. I am in awe of the magnitude and breadth of God's creations to care for his children and am currently studying medicinal herbs and traditional healing systems. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a passion and look forward to studying it further as my children grow older. I love to do Qigong, as well as walk and bike in the beauty that surrounds me.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family with parents who were both Mormon but when I was twelve, I decided that I needed to know for myself if the things I had been taught from my infancy were true. I prayed and asked God if the Book of Mormon is true and if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God to restore his gospel upon the earth. It was then that I received an answer, a quiet answer from God which confirmed the truth of everything I'd learned. My testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ has only grown stronger since getting married in the temple to a wonderful man who believes as I do. We have chosen to live in accordance with the commandments of God, striving each day to be more like the Savior. As each of our children were born, we began teaching them of their divine nature and of God's plan of happiness for each of his children. These teachings have allowed us to help shape our own children's lives into ones of goodness and righteousness. Without a doubt, our membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and our efforts to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ have been pivotal in any success we have realized as a family or individually. Knowing that we are children of a Heavenly Father who loves us changes the choices we all make and, therefore, the people we become. It isn't easy having so many children to care for. There is never a dull moment at our house. The demands are many. Often the work which is required to keep up with everyone and everything going wears me out. I feel overwhelmed way too often but when I do, I can always find peace when I turn to God. I know he'll hear me. I know he'll help me. I also know he'll help my husband and children and those I love. My prayers have been answered many times. The gospel of Jesus Christ has changed my life. It means everything to me. That's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith is a daily part of my life. I have learned that everything goes better when I take a few minutes to pray, ponder and study my scriptures each day. I find this foundation is essential for my happiness as well as the interactions I have with each of my family members. Together we study the Book of Mormon as a family each night and find greater unity and harmony when we do. We also hold a weekly Family Home Evening each Sunday night during which we sing songs, plan out our week, discuss principles of the gospel and have fun together. Prayer is an important part of my life and the way I utilize my faith daily. I pray often throughout the day, we have prayer twice a day as a family and my husband and I pray together each night before we go to sleep. I try to listen for God's answers to my prayers and make choices in my life based upon the promptings I receive from him. Every day I am learning to trust God more and more as he leads and guides me through whatever life brings. I have come to understand that God knows me personally and when I take the time to pray and ponder, I can more easily feel his love and share it with others. In addition to attending our Sunday church meetings together, my husband and I support our children in their participation in the youth programs which, with all our children, keeps us pretty busy. I serve in the Cub Scout organization of my ward and love the programs we're able to put together to help the 8 to 11 year-old boys to achieve wonderful things. I also participate in the visiting teaching program which allows me to provide watch care over several sisters in our congregations. My greatest hope is to be God's hand to do his work to care for his children.
